i am having trouble decoding my serial number for my what i was told is a 57 Chevy 1ton. i will enclose some pictures and the serial number in hopes that you can help.
I was told that the 6cyl that it currently has is an original crate motor installed in 1964 when the gentlemen i bought it from purchased it and had put on only 20,000 miles. Please let me know if there is any other info that i might need to get to properly identify my truck.
Model # 1423
Serial # 71423607745
Engine # C199550
Body Serial # 12477
I truly hope i can get the help i need to restore this good ol'boy.

I think it's a 3/4-ton ...Model 1423 should be a chassis-cab. The engine number is appropriate for a 1957 235 and the 'C' indicates light commercial variant, up to 1 ton.

I need some help with finding parts for my 1950 GMC truck. The engine number is hard to read but it looks like a 54 or 56 Chevy straight six has been installed in this truck. I haven't found any VIN info on this old a truck. Later VIN numbers had 17 numbers, mine is A228211263
Engine number is either
3836848 or
5886848
GMC serial number on door is FC 101 98190

The # 3836848 headcasting number identifies it as a 1955-56 235 Chevy engine.
