Like the title says I got a bad itch for a Vette and have the wife convinced we need one. So I have decided on a C5 as they are getting to a point of being affordable by us po' folks. I have had a few C4's and they aren't that impressive IMO and the newer one's aren't in my price range yet. My question is - Is there a particular year that is better/worse in the 97-04 bunch? Anything to look out for besides the normal used car buying hazards? Thanks in advance!

There were minor technical improvements from '97 to '04 so the horsepower/torque changed a little.
The last of a production run is generally thought of as "best" in that all the bugs were worked out of the platform.
Buy the latest production car you can afford...

That's good advice, I think. I had a 2000 that was flawless, while my neighbor had an '02 that was as good in every respect. Another friend had a 1998 that he put 100,000 miles on without issues. Choose any one that suits you, preferably from the owner not a dealer that has no history with the car.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks guys. I am going shopping today so wish me luck! A buddy of mine was telling he has had a few with traction control issues - is this true? He is a wholesaler and has bought quite a few, but is not an expert by any means. He says that usually the car can just be driven for a decent distance and the system will reset.

Based on personal experience with my '98, I would stay away from the early models, say from 1997-2000. Lots of irritating problems in my case. See my post here:
