LOL!! Ok i go over to my friends house today to have a few beers and kick back and watch some tv. And he shows me his new "bright" idea. We go to the shop to look at his 83 Chevy truck and he patched a hole in his exhaust near the tip using foil and duck tape....Yes foil from lasagna pan and duck tape!! He explained to me that he wraped aluminum foil from the pan around it first then put duct tape around it and another layer of foil and them more duck tape... I grabbed his beer and said ok you had enough thats crazy!! He said it will work cause its near the tip and it wont get that hot near the tip and the foil wont burn thru. My question is is he crazy or will that work. Have a bet going that his idea will not work!! What do you think?

OMG! I live in Kentucky and that sounds like something some of my relative might do!
ok, the foil pan bottom should hold up to the heat cause you bake a lasagna at 375... but I think the tape will probably melt if he used regular duct tape... now, if he used the metal foil type duct tape he may win the bet, LMAO!

When I was 16 years old, I had a Model A F@#d, and I split the muffler by making it backfire. Lacking the money for a new muffler, I used a long, straight section of iron water pipe of approximately the same diameter as the original tailpipe. It was attached to the manifold down pipe by a flattened section of a Folger's coffee can wrapped around the pipe and held in place by two hose clamps. The rear end of the pipe was suspended from the rear bumper by a piece of baling wire. It didn't leak (very much) and wasn't TOO loud if I kept the engine rpm down, so it got me by until I could afford a new muffler.
Sometimes you just do what you have to do. As my friend Chuck used to say, "That's hot rodding."

A couple of split-open coke cans and hose clamps "fixed" a farty-sounding exhaust leak on a previous g/f's Mazda pickup; it had rotted through just in one spot and sounded horrible. We were broke...it worked great for quite a while.

I used the muffler mud-and-wrap kits once when I was 16. It worked for all of a week. If that.

Hey that works also.In a pinch just about any idea will work out in your head I know im guilty of that lol. The WORST one i have ever heard of. A guy used PVC pipe cause the exhaust smell was making him sick. And sprayed the pipe with hurculiner inside and out as best as he could and them sprayed high temp paint on top in that. And that guy is the cousin to the friend i know LOL. I never seen it just heard storys of it. Dont know what happend after that..... All i know is thats one CrAzY idea

Ive seen that beer can and hose clamp truck work a whole mess of times... Used to bend pipe at a muffler shop and you start seeing all kinds of creative things... but nothing worked like that.

Sounds like some people I know.
1. One used Steel wool tied to the end of a coat hanger stuck up his car tail pipe to get it inspected ,Then pulled it out after he got the sticker.
2. Another friend made his dual tail pipes with his kids swing set legs. They had paint on them that look like candy cane stripes.

I used a coke can cut in half and held on with muffler clamps (I have a bucket of new muffler clamps laying around) to temporarily fix a hole in an exhaust recently. It held up for about 3 months before burning through. If I can ever find the photo, I'll post it...

Speakin' of PVC pipe a kid in HS built a roll bar out of PVC. He then covered it with the black padding so it looked like a roll bar.
Always egged him about tryin' it out.

I had a PVC radiator hose for a while. '67 Belvedere "shop car" needed a radiator, dug one out of the back that bolted up OK but the hose outlet at the bottom was on the wrong side. Built up some PVC and held it in place with big zip ties, connected at the ends of course with cut off sections of hose. Worked great. Only popped loose once.

I had a weekend birthdy trip to Houston last year. On my way there, the heater core on my Jimmy takes a dump. Quick fix, bypass the core to get home. Bought 4 hose clamps and used a fitting my tool box. The fitting was a natural gas stove hose fitting adaptor. Amazingly both sides are different but fit the hoses perfectly!! That fitting will stay in my travling tool box forever!!

can you just picture being out on a date...
"...baby, take off your pantyhose and give 'em to me..."
try to explain all that to her father/mother???
Cracks me up thinking about it!

I had a fuel line on my '89 Suburban somehow get pinched behind the trans crossmember and leak. I fixed it by sliding a piece of fuel line hose leftover in my tool box, over where the leak was, and clamping both ends. Still is that way right now, it leaked the last time I drove it - but not from that spot.
I wonder why you couldn't use a steel soup can the same as the coke can and have it last longer?
Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize it on the internet.
