I have a 2011 Chevy 1500 crew cab LTZ Z71 4x4 with a LC9 5.3 and a MYC 6 speed transmission with a 3.08 rear gear ratio currently with 1,200+ miles on it.

I have a horrible vibration coming through the steering wheel, brake and gas pedal and the seat that feelS like the wheels, more in the front than the rear, are jackhammering the ground. I have had it at a dealer and they verified that it had a vibration. Balanced and rotated the tires and even swapped tires and wheels from another brand new truck with different style tires and the vibration did not go away. It constently feels as if the truck is running over rumble strips. From a stop sometimes there is something that you can feel from the rear that drags and then lets go until the truck is going fast enough to create the vibration. The only confortable speed is between 45-55 miles per hour. The truck has been like this since new but getting worse. I thought it was just flat spots in the tire but swapping the tires eliminated that. The "eva" tool was installed and the tool brought no light to the situation.

Does anyone have any idea on what could be the issue? For a $50k truck it should not be like this.

VIN 3GCPKTE39BG362887
Thanks

My best guess is that something in the drivetrain isn't right. Maybe driveshaft needs to be balanced? I have no idea, since I am not familiar with your issue.

I definitely agree with you on one thing though, a $50k truck with 1,200 miles should not be doing this!

I can't believe the dealer cannot find such a obvious problem.

With it gone a 45-55 mph that would seem to indicate a tire or wheel problem. If something is bad, bent etc you would expect it to occur all the time, not get better at certain speeds. Maybe a brake problem?

Does it occur when coasting?

There are weights on the driveshaft and yes it is still present when coasting and in neutral. I did go back and drive a 2012 1500 4x4 and the only difference between the build of the truck is that the 2012 is not a Z71 and has a 3.42 gear. The truck was smoother BUT the same vibration at the same speed. Now they got 2 with the same problem. I know its a truck and not a Caddy but my 03 Tahoe with 9 inches and 35 inch Nitto Trail Grapplers rides 10x better than this truck. Even the top tech is scratching his head on this one.

Go out to your truck and remove the wheels, once removed see if there are star looking washers on the studs they put them on at the factory to hold the rotors on when the truck is built on the line, if they are there remove them and reinstall the wheels. Sometimes those washers will not let the rim seat to the rotor and create a viberation that you are saying.

I had a very similar issue with a 2000 model Chevy truck. In the end, and after many months of arguing with the dealership and Chevy themselves, the dealership found the problem and ended up eating 4 new tires. Turns out 3 of them were "out of round".

Ah the power of the internet. Got a problem look online and wa-la! Others with the same issue. Obviously there is something seriously wrong with 2011 and 2012 Chevy trucks. My '11 Z71 (vin BZ432621) has had a vibration since day one in August 2011. Called the service dept, they said wait until it had 700 miles. Still had it at 800 so I took it in. I was told they had some problems with the delivery of some vehicles...that they were torqued down too tight on the hauler (they have since re-canted that story). They balanced the tires, may have helped a tad but still had it. Next trip they did a road-force balance...still had it. I was asked to come in and drive a new '12 for comparison. It vibrated worse than my '11! The service manager rode with me and acknowledged the vibration in both trucks, he gave me his spiel that the 1/2 ton now has the 3/4 ton frame...don't know if this could be a cause, we talked that maybe the tires are not engineered properly for the vehicle, don't know. I don't drive my truck unless i have to haul something. Gas is down to $3.09 so I took it to fill up...1360 miles now, same AWFUL vibration, especially at 40 mph. So I went to google and landed here. Called Chevy to open a case, every one should do this by the way, there is power in numbers, and unless there are enough complaints, nothing will get done. Case in point: Ever hear of piston slap in '99-'02 5.3 (and others) Chevy engines? I had one, 2002 Z71 I bought new, began to knock like a diesel. You can read about it at www.pistonslap.com. Same scenario with the same dealer, DENIAL. Through this website I was able to contact attorneys handling these cases, eventually the lawyers got around $1500, I got $4500...traded the truck back to Chevy for an '06. Let me say I love Chevrolet's, I keep buying them. I've had several trucks and Corvettes. I guess there's more truth to what I used to say than I thought: "I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford". Come on GM, do the right thing and fix our trucks. I had an '07 and '08 that both rode like Cadillacs. What did they do wrong on the '11's and '12's?
