I'm looking to buy a 1980 El Camino. It has a fresh 305 for the motor and the original transmission has been replaced by a TH350 out of a 1972 C10, 2 wheel drive pickup. He says all it needs is a transmission cross member & mount. I guess my question is this: Will the original 80 El Camino cross member fit? Or what do I need to do? Thanx, Johnny

Yes the original crossmember will fit a TH350. You only need to modify or change the crossmember when putting in a 700R4.

wagonman100 is right it should fit, but I have a better idea. I would go and buy a double hump crossmember. What I mean is that both sides have a cutout so you can run dual exhaust. If you put the stock crossmember back in you can only run a single unless you mod the stock one. One I would recommend is the gforce one

Now in no way do you have to do this, but I would strongly recommend to do this so you can run dual exhausts.

Thanks tuggy. I was going to suggest the same thing but I had to run off to work. I have the G-force crossmember in my El Camino for the 700R4 and so I could run duals.

Hmmm, now ya got me wunderin'. I really haven't been under mine (dual exhaust), so I'm hopin' there IS a crossmember in there. I have a crossmember (double-humped) for the '56, and guess where it is? Leaning against the wall in the garage. Hafta get the mufflers moved back about a foot to get it installed, and I've been too lazy to take it to a muffler shop!!

The one for the Elky is a specialty piece Bruce. The frame for the A/G bodies is nothing like you're used to. For some reason, GM decided to shorten one side of the boxed section of the frame and make the crossmember go across the car at an angle. I originally modified my OE crossmember for the duals and later again for the 700-R4, but then switched to the G-Force piece. It's a stout crossmember.

I was thinking about modding my old stock crossmember and then just decided to buy a gforce one. Better choice in my option.
