When I first bought it in 1969. I was 16 years old, and it was my first car.

Thanks Evan.
I have to give a lot of credit to the advice that I got from the painting forum here. It really gave me the confidence that I could do it myself in my garage. I didn't do it as quickly as a pro could have, but it turned out pretty well.
Here's another shot of it after I finished the paint.

I love these "found again" stories; I also love the two-tone paint jobs, and yours came out GREAT - you should be proud!
Every once in a while, I wish I could buy my 1st car back. But they don't get passed around, parted out or put out to pasture anymore - they get crushed!
I'm giving some thought to doing my own paint as well; paint is too important to skip, and too expensive to hire out!

Thanks for the compliments! I am very happy with the end result.
It was pure luck for me to come across the same car again, 30 years after having sold it. Too bad it was missing parts and was pretty rusty, but at least I had it back.
I did a single stage color first, and sanded and buffed it (due to there being lots of orange peel). But I wasn't happy with the "look" of that, so I prepped it and applied the clear coat. Again, more orange peel, so lots more sanding and buffing. But it does have a depth to it that it didn't have with the color coat only.
It was a LOT cheaper to do it myself, even considering the purchase of a compressor, an HVLP spray gun, and all the primer, paint, thinners, sanding paper, tape, etc. And in the end I felt really good about having done it. I would recommend the experience to anyone considering it.
I'd also recommend getting a REALLY good filter mask!

Love that creamy yellow. May I ask what color it is? Is it an original yellow/cream?

I'm sorry that I missed your question. I just forgot to look at this posting.
The color is Moonlight Cream. It is the original color for the car, but it does look a lot more "creamy" with the clear coat on it.

Great lookin' color. I'm not a fan of yellows, but I like the soft cream colors that GM used in the 50's & 60's.
Thanks!
