I bought my 57 ACC ignition switch directly from AAW 3-4 years ago. I now have a problem that when I turn the car off the radio stays on for a few seconds and then when I put the key back in the switch the radio will then usually turn off.
I haven't just left it alone to see if the radio will eventually shut off.
Help. Thanks

Are you turning the key all the way back to the left (lock on the bezel)? If so, that is an accessory position and the radio will stay on. Just a thought.

No, its in the off and lock position.
Off and lock arte diffreent on the new switch. So on the bezel, it's in the Off position, correct? If so, it should not be operational. All should be off. If it's in the Lock position on the bezel, that's actually in accessory mode with the new switch. If it is in the Off position, and still passing voltage, it is bad. I am away at a show in Flint and will not be back until 7/26.

Have you had problems with this new switch lasting only a few years? I have verified I have turned the switch to the proper position so all power should be off. The funny thing is the engine shuts off immediately, cd player shuts off after 1-2 second and the radio shuts off after 3-4 seconds.
All was working correctly for a number of years until reciently.

No, not particularly. We sell thousands of those switches a year and we might replace a dozen or so. Very acceptable. Usually when a switch fails, it's due to something hooked up to the system that's drawing too much power thru the system and it causes the switch to fail prematurely.

That sounds like it could be feedback from the alternator keeping the accessory position hot until the engine stops. You may need a diode in the indicator light circuit.

Don,
Unless the car is runing an MSD unit, that is not typically a problem with our Classic Update system as it already has a resistance wire in the system to keep that from happening. An electric fan will cause that as it will feed back to the ignition circuit when the car is shut off just as an alternator will.

I have not added any draw for several years and have all the correct "circuts" to prevent feedback. It just plan has failed until last night and all turned off at once.
I have searched for a new switch but couldn't find a new switch with the acc position. AS i look back over the years I have had the ACC position switch, I have not used the ACC position so I am tempted to use the original switch except for the fact I rewired my car for the ACC switch. I did not use the adapter harness that was available since I was not aware there was one available.
Where can I get a new ACC switch and what is the cost?

Call me Monday am. We'll get you fixed up. We can talk about what accessories you might have in the car that could have possibly lead to the failure in a short time. As I said previuosly, that switch is typically not a problem. We literally sell thousands per year and if we have 5 that need to be replaced, that would be alot. Usually when one fails early, it's because there is something drawing too hard on it and running too much current through it. My direct extension is #216. Talk with you Monday. By the way, you do not want to use an original switch with that system. Especially if you have HEI, or Fuel Injection.

Thanks for the offer. It is working fine now but if it goes bad again I'll call. No HEI or FI, just radio, cd player and electric choke.
