Got one of my vent window assemblies finished last night. New rubber and door glass running channel. Now it is boxed up and ready for installation in the door once it is painted.
Also got some extra gas tank straps and will work on that some tonight. Still haven't figuared out exactly how to mount my fuel pump and filter.

On the vent widow rubber, I have had trouble getting the rubber to go into the channel and wanted to know how you did it. I have done a half dozen pairs and it does not seem to get any easier.

tinted driver & passenger windows, including wing windows, passenger and driver side mirrors, door skins in black leather with red trim, custom white face gauge cluster trimmed in chrome and red lettering with red illumination, driver & passenger door locks, handles, window cranks, and a little bit of wiring for the triple gauge illumination.
all of it only took me a few hours to do.....mostly cause i just took the doors and gauge cluster off the 67 and put them on the 69... but now i have 2 more or less finished doors, that dont need to be slammed in order to shut them completely, each with mirrors, and working door locks, handles, and window cranks.

As far as the installation of the rubber in the channel goes, I just pushed and poked until I got it in there. Not sure of the "correct" way to do it, but I got it done.
Do you remove the two rivets at the top of the assembly? The rubber is designed to be installed with the vent frame seperate from the window glass channel. Removing these two rivets also makes it easier to get to the rivets that hold the vertical flat rubber vent seal in place.

Well, since buying the truck a few weeks ago, I have come up with a plan on "what" Im going to do (always subject to some changes), and have found and bought several parts for the job.
I have found an original center console, a different steering column (since Im changing to a 4 speed), a new air dash (since the radio holes were cut on mine). I have also found a 4 speed and original linkage.
I have been hesitant to start disassembly on the truck because I have been somewhat worried about our current national state of affairs.
Boys, our government is on the verge of bankrupting us all. If you stop and think about it-----dumping a bunch of money into a vehicle I may never get to drive may not be the smartest thing in the world.
But, with that said------Im still planning and slowly heading in that direction.
Good luck to us all.!!!!

You are working lots of hours! No wonder you don't have time for your project.
Jim
He's making TONS of money for this project truck!!
Finally going to have a couple of weeks of project time to myself. I have managed to stock pile a mountain of parts and have a ups truck on the way probably heavy enough to to be sitting on the bump stops.
Goals for Saturday are to have the exhaust done and be ready for color. I got kind of lazy today but got all the garage cleaned and rearranged so I can start working. In the last few months everything has changed directions about 38 times on paper. I was going to do a junk yard twin turbo blow through setupon a small block and collected almost everything I needed then I found another 454 Monday and took it home and then I decided to stick with keep it simple with like the original plan. Hopefully by mid to end of January this thing will be done.

Mid January would be quick! Aren't you working so many hours anymore?
I have been making a little progress on my 72 GMC project. Currently, I am working on the bare frame getting it prepped for painting with POR.
My original plan was to put a small block in it until I recently picked up a very nice 427. Now I am thinking, hmmmm!

Hey jim I got a couple of weeks maybe 3-4 off. I do the striping on the roads and highways and it's just too cold right now since the temperature of the road has to be 45* or warmer. I should be able to work 8-10 hours a day uninterrupted on my truck.
There isn't anything wrong with having more power my last c10 had about 500 HP with Cal tracs and 12 inch wide drag radials. When it would stick the mustang guys were left in the dust and not happy to be beat hard by a 5000 pound brick. I think you would probably have some fun.

Still collecting parts---
Bought a new wiring harness. On a trip to vegas last week I scored two near perfect doors and the cream of all picks-----a near perfect tailgate.
I thought Id be proud of the doors--but the slick tailgate was surely icing on the cake.
Gonna be time to start work soon!!

I looked everywhere for some dang wheel brushes for my angle grinder and found none. None!! I did find a composite fiberglass pad for metal for ten bucks. It only lasted long enough to get one fender done. So to not waste the day I bought some rustoliem to block the rust from coming back and noticed at the local wally world had tires on sale(goodyear wranglers for $88). I need two new tires for the front and thought that's a deal. Went home to fire up the truck and get it to Walmart before they close. Damn thing wont crank. I have bad solenoid. A whole lot of chasing my tail this weekend.

So my starter is making all kinds of noise when I and start my truck. It is like a great big whack. Like its hitting the fly wheel teeth. After several attempts to start eventually it would start. I should have stated this from the jump but I'm a newbie. I have asked a friend of mine what he thought and he said it should be shimmed. Here is the problem. The truck has an old double hump or camel hump 350 in it. I'm under the impression its from an old camaro. Would it have the same starter as a standard 71 c10 with 350 in it? If it is oem part why is there still a need to shim? Seems like there would be a standard size. So I pulled the starter out and started to do research. Does anyone know of a better way to fix the situation then to blindly add and or take out shims? Help is greatly appreciated..

Starters are the same as long as you have the right one for the flywheel. Trucks use the larger flywheel so the starter should have the diagonal bolt holes to hold it on.
Does your starter have the correct bolts to hold it on? If you don't have the right bolts then misalignment can occur.
Take a look at the flywheel and make sure that the teeth are not out of shape. Also, look at the gear on the starter to make sure it is ok. I have never had to shim a starter but I assume that it could be necessary for some starters.

Like Jim mentioned you must use special bolts for a starter. The real starter bolts are knurled. I have only needed shims one time and I ended replacing the starter bolts and then the shims were no longer needed. Trucks use 168 tooth flywheels/flex plates and they do eventually need to be replaced. If they have been used to the point the teeth are really worn and maybe missing I would suggest replacement of the starter as well as the flex plate or flywheel. Its not uncommon to have them crack over time and can literally cut your feet off if they explode especially if it is a flywheel. Another fairly common problem is the bolt holes in the block can get messed up create alignment issues.

Thanks y'all for the response. The starter does have a diagonal bolt pattern. The PO replaced the starter before I bought it. The starters teeth does have a few marks but no chunks taken out. The flywheel(newb question. The flywheel and the flexplate the same thing?)doesn't have a cover and does not look cracked or broke from what I can see. Going to take the starter bolts to autozone and check if they are the correct size.

If you are going to get new bolts just make sure they are starter bolts and not just standard 3/8 butter bolts from the hardware store bargain bin.

Looks like you have a few. I wish I had enough room to keep another one. If I parked anything but my daily driver in the drive way my persnickety neighbors would do everything they could to make my life worse. I parked my 78 in the driveway once for about 20 minutes and came out to find a note telling me that vehicles 10 years or older parked in plain sight are bringing down the value of the neighborhood. If you have looked at my signature link my 78 was pretty clean. Now that I think about it I am probably the only one in my neighborhood that owns anything older than 10 years old.

I think a 78 truck brings a little class to the neighborhood! It must be a bummer having to deal with that attitude.
There are at least 10 car guys living within a mile of where I live and we don't have neighbors that are quick to complain.

Where I live its a real small city with about 100,000 people. Its kind of like living in the country but you can usually get about anything you need locally. The location is almost perfect we have 2 large lakes 15 minutes away a ski resort an hour away and lots of areas for hunting, fishing camping etc. About 10 years ago the people from the bay area (San Francisco) realized they could sell their million dollar 100 year old small houses and move here and buy new houses 5 times bigger with a little property for less than $200,000 on average. So now we are being taken over by yuppies from the city that are all retired. I happen to live in a neighbor hood full of these snobs who still think they live in Beverly Hills. I'm the youngest person in the area and also one of the only people that isn't retired. I'm also one of the only people that doesn't drive a pretty new BMW, Mercedes or have a huge tour bus. They might have things I don't and time to peek out of the window and look for things to complain about but I can promise you I am meaner and don't let them get away with harassing me.

yeah i bought a house in a township and not in any city limits to keep away from rules. i did get a letter once telling me i had 30 days to remove two junk cars from my driveway once - it made my wife way angrier than it made me. they were stripped parts cars getting turned in anyway.
and the guy across the street told me one of the neighbors complained that my boat and my enclosed trailer are eyesores.
i figure they'll love the orange/primer 68 with a teal tailgate.

Finally got my truck running today. It hasn't been started in months maybe even a year. I turned on the electric fuel pump for a couple of seconds and pumped the gas pedal twice before I twisted the key and it fired right off. I have been really excited to hear the new exhaust and wasn't dissapointed. I took a short 10 second video from the drivers seat.

Thanks Jim. It wasn't really warmed up to temp when I took the video. After it warmed up a little longer it was a little snappier. I'm actually fairly happy with it for what it is. This is the mildest motor I have ever put together and I kind of feel like I left enough free HP and tq on the table that I will be doing a head and cam swap soon after it gets on the road. From my calculations I'm guessing about 300 HP and about 350 on the torque at about 4k.
I was relieved it didn't sound too wild and glad it doesn't still have that old ratty glass pack sound. I really wanted to let it out of the garage but I know it has at least one sloppy u joint and the gas tank is pretty low in fuel. I still have a few thingies need to do before I will be confident it will make it back home under its own power and today kind of got me remotivated.

My current project is a 72 GMC short bed stepside and I have a long way to go. I am in the process of cleaning/repairing/painti ng parts for the suspension. The bare frame is finished and I have freshened up the 427 engine that I am using which is out of a 69 Impala SS. The TH 400 is ready to go after going through it. It did not need rebuilding, just the usual seals, gaskets and filter items).
Here are a couple of pictures that show some of the current progress.

Bought a POS cab last week, but it has some good metal around the cowl area that I need. $50! Took the bench seat out and put it on the street for trash pick up and somebody took it already. I've got doors and gas tank and a few other things that might be worth selling, but for now I'm ripping everything out of the way to get at the cowl.

Well sorta. I did a repair already, but it didnot turn out too good. The cowl grill doesn't fit like it should. Plus I have a big hole in the "A" pillar at the cowl junction. This cab has what I need to fix that. Plus a unmolested dash.
