I've noticed over the past 10 years there have been a few different oil filter PF#'s for the 2000-2002 Silverado with the 5.3L.

The most resent one is the PF46 which is shorter than another variation that I remember using a few years back. At the Autopart store yesterday I opened a taller PF61 filter. It seems to have the same diameter and thread pattern, The dimensions of the two look the same with the exception of the PF61 being taller. Even the metal part on the inside with the threaded hole and the 6 through holes had the same stamp of "G" on it.

I am going to give it a try aas it has more oil capacity and will be easier to get on and off with my filter wrench with the additional 1 inch of depth.

Has anybody used this filter on their 5.3L before?

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two?

There are some other threads in here from a year or so ago and back that discuss this as well as other filter comparisons (too many to link too). The short of it is that the PF61 will work just fine

AC Delco does not make the spec's known but I looked the Wix filters for comparisons.

Basically the 46 is used for V8 applications while the 61 is for 6-cylinder applications. Aside from the size difference, one has a higher burst strength than the other.

Here is more info on AC Delco filters

ACDelco Launches Redesigned OE Oil Filter
By Blog Post on November 4, 2009 1:01 AM | No Comments
ACDelco has announced a redesigned Original Equipment (OE) oil filter that offers ACDelco's exclusive Duraguard® media in a smaller package.

The new OE filter applications PF46E, PF47E, PF52E and PF61E will be installed in applicable new GM models.

The new oil filter features:

• Increased efficiency and higher burst and collapse strength (Fig. 5, A)
• A new Nylon core that provides better flow characteristics and improved collapse strength
(Fig. 5, B)
• A full cover baseplate that allows easy installation in blind applications (Fig. 5, C)
• Duraguard media, ACDelco's trademarked synthetic cellulose-blended media that
efficiently filters particles as small as 10 microns -- 1/3 the width of a human hair -- to
ensure a clean supply of oil to engine components (Fig. 5, D)
• A combination relief and anti-drainback valve that prevents dry starts and assures oil flow
(where applicable) (Fig. 5, E)

In addition to the new OE design oil filter applications, the original filters (PF46, PF47, PF52 and PF61) continue to be available in a classic design.
