Hi guys! been a while since I've been on but the Wife's Trailblazer has a whining noise (under the hood of course). I think it might be the alternator since the pitch of whine increases as you throttle up. My suggestion box is empty, please help.

Thanks, Bill

That would make sense, being right below the alternator. I remember the dealer replacing one a few years ago but I think it was the tensioner pulley. Gonna look closer tomorrow. Thanks.

If the noise is constant, remove the belt. Turn each pulley. Check for wobbling.

Gonna check that tomorrow "G", thanks. Had to inform Wife that it won't be fixed till Sat though. Staying off the roads on "Black Friday", not to mention that's also the Alabama-Auburn game.

UPDATE! It was the idler pulley, but it didn't have any wobble at all. When I spun it though it sounded like metal against metal, the bearings were bone dry. Thanks for the help, I knew there was reason I signed up here.

I'm glad you were though. I now officially HATE the Trailblazer. No room at all in the engine compartment. Told Wife that her next Chevy is gonna be a crew cab Silverado with the 4.3 V6 and electronic fans. I guess bleeding is a requirement of DIY auto repair (lol). Thanks again for the help and I am glad to have gotten it fixed.

I was gonna say the idler pulley.
Mine had a very slight whine.
as preventative maintenance I changed it out.
Cheap and easy to fix this item.

My buddy also bought a 2010 Silverado W/T with the V6.
Youre right-- that V6 engine in there with electric fans reminded me of my 64 C-20 with a V8. Tons of space.
You can see where the fan/clutch would go.. but no longer there on the new models.

He also got it with the factory chrome rims and the chrome bumpers and cloth interior...
No body knows its a Silverado work Truck with the V6.
I think everybody thinks its a V8 silverado.
The V6 does what he needs to carry.
Its the extra cab and was wayyyyy cheaper than the V8 models-- and he got the truck sale event which gave him an additional $5000 off the price....
