Who would know the answer to our question regarding what color paint goes on the garnish moldings of our '55 Nomad. The paint code is 607 and according to paint charts that color is Glacier Blue/Shoreline Beige. When we first purchased the Nomad it was painted Stratomist Blue- a corvette color and a white top and we are keeping it that color. I Assume with that paint code that the original color was Glacier Blue on the top and Shoreline Beige on the bottom. I do not remember Nomads with Blue on the top and white on the bottom - is this rare? the chrome inside door mouldings (below the windows) were taken off - stripped and we are going to paint them - but I would like to know if we are to paint them Glacier Blue - the dash is that color - apparently no one ever changed it. The interior is stock - we had it replaced a few years ago and we are putting the linoleum in the cargo area. The trim code is 542 which is Beige Vinyl and blue waffle pattern inside on the seats.

Welcome!
I have a '55 Nomad with a paint code of 616. This code # doesn't even show up on most paint code charts. It obviously is very rare. A fellow member of CNA (Chevrolet Nomad Association) gave me this picture that he had of one with the 616 code. It is Regal Turquoise over India Ivory.
I have never seen or heard of other Nomads with the "color" on top and the "white" on the bottom. What is your Body number. Mine is CL0058 which is one of the first built. I'm curious if yours is a low body number also. I've been told that the first 100 or so were hand built before the assembly line was making them. Maybe the "odd" color codes were done then.
I can't help you with garnish molding colors as mine came without them.

I believe Alan Colvin's book Chevrolet by the Numbers (1955-59) has the info you seek. I have a copy at home. I'll try to remember to look it up tonight.

OK, this is what I found in Alan Colvin's book (bear with this going to get a little wordy)...
I found the 607 paint code listed for the 2100 models (210's) and it decodes to Glacier Blue upper body and Shoreline Beige lower body. I didn't find it listed amongst the codes for 2400's (Belairs) but I can tell you from studying these codes over the past few years that typically if a code is used in one series (150, 210 or Belair) it decodes the same in the other series. (I'm a database analyst by trade so that's why I like this stuff - go figure) So I feel confident that the 607 would decode the same for the Belairs/Nomads.
OK, now for the 542 trim code: I do find it listed twice for the Nomads and it is the Blue & Beige interior. There is also an associated notation for the 542 that the following are painted Glacier Blue: Instr panel - upper & lower; steering wheel, column & hub; garnish mouldings; direction signal housing; Ash Tray cover panel; door locking knob; heater cover panel
Hope that helps,

I have A 1955 nomad with the 616 code, body # CL 7 and it is the India Ivory bottom and the turquoise blue top as pictured. It seems that these were early production color combinations, I wonder how many are out there. I am in the process of a ground up restoration on mine., Vinny
