I've got a 1982 Chevy G30 Van. It's a 1 ton with TH400 trany & old 350V8.
I only drive it once a week to haul my remote control airplanes to and from the flying site. The van is perfect because my biggest plane has a 7 foot wingspan.
I'd like to start fixing it up a little but have noticed that parts are hard to find for these vans. What type of trucks from that era have interchangeable parts? Any help is appreciated.

The whole drivetrain is the same as the 73/87 pick-ups.Except the frame.
Even the radiator.
Most of the body parts will work from 73/87 G-vans,wheather 10,20 or 30 series.
A good rust free battery box is hard to find.
The U-Pull-It yards around here are full of these vans!

Chevy/GMC G-van body parts will interchange up to model year 1995. 1996-on is the new body style.
What parts are you in need of?

In fact I think the old style carried into 1996, I see the cutoff vary some. And the intro year was '71 on those.
My '95 has '85 rear doors, '88 side doors and '92 front doors. I even added power windows and locks. There are minor changes here and there as they go from carb to TBI, but for the most part everything is pretty well interchangable.
Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize it on the internet.

I stand corrected Bill!
I just put the years I knew for sure were the same.
Btw,today I traded a junk 86 Ford F-150 for a 89,G-20 /custom van.
It'a tbi-305,with turbo-400.(I gotta look closer at the trans).Has power windows/locks,a/c,tilt,cr uise,etc.
Just needed a hot battery and it fired right up and runs and drives great. It is ruff around the edges!
With a title!
My friend hauls scrap cars/trucks and brings the GM stuff to me first. This is one of the better ones.

By '89 that G20 should have a 700R4, unless maybe it has a tow package. They aren't bad and once I got one and did some work on it it's pretty comfortable to drive. Milage will vary with the rear gear ratio. Is it a Starcraft?
