I have a 1995 GMC K2500:
6.5L-T / 4L80E / 4.10 gears / 7.50-16 tires.
Tranny only has 2nd & reverse, shut the ignition off and wait 5-15 seconds reatart the truck and you have all 4 gears again for a while shazzam poof it jumps back into limp mode again then you have shut it off and restart it to get your gears back again . . .
I was told its the "VSS" or "Vehicle Speed Sensor" but my speedo work's just fine so how can it be the speed sender ?

I've got a 6.5td and 4L80E on my dually, it resets when the key os turned off. If the error returns it will go back into limp mode depending upon what the error is. You need to have it scanned to get the error codes, then you can fix it with the right parts. Otherwise your tossing parts at it without knowing what's actually wrong. The 4L80E has 1 VSS sensor, 1 input shaft speed sensor, 1 output shaft speed sensor and a host of other solinoids. If one of the input or output speed sensors goes bad, it thinks the tranny is slipping or not in the right gear and poof limp mode. The VSS is not the only sensor that causes what your describing.

The truck is gutless puke, i highly doubt it could slip a weak transmission.
wonderful, well having it scanned is $350 with no garenty it'll link. $350 if it link's $350 if it don't . . .
its a 95' with 139K miles i should just crush it i'll be money ahead . . .
The truck doesn't have any power ! and it seems to break down once a month !
is it really worth fixing it ? . . .
I have already got thousands and thousands into the boat anchor GM calls a diesel engine.
I never thought the transmission would fail first . . .

As you can see i can change them all for less money then it would cost to have it scanned where it may or may not link up . . .

I wish I had more info to give you about troubleshooting this angle but I would be suspicious of the ignition switch as well. Don't just swap it out as it's a bit of a PITA, but transman or someone else might pop in with some more info. These switches have been known to be a little problematic in the 95-up trucks.

Can i crush it yet ?

Well Mike, I will gladly admit to not being a fan of the 6.5, and also not a fan of the 95-up interior and the changes it brought about, including the redesigned steering column, ignition switch, and other electrical assemblies.
However. After more than a few years of owning more than a few vehicles, I have learned that none of them are perfect and all will have their quirks to deal with in one way or another. You could, for example, own a Ford with the self-igniting cruise control/brake circuit, or a Dodge with the exploding transmission feature.
As far as the gutless 6.5, I'd say you should find the fella that test drove and bought that truck and give him a piece of your mind. Not trying to poke you in the eye here, just offering an outsider's perspective.

Wasn't much of a test drive ! it's test drive was towing home my Ford F-150 that puked its third transmission . . . i walked to the dealer bought the 6.5er and to home i went . . .
It seem to tow fine then, but as time went by it kept getting doggier and doggier . . .
from 115K-125k miles it faded and faded, so i started the alterations and up grades all of which added some of the old pep back to it empty . . .
but loaded it was still struggling bad . . .
at 135K miles i had it inspected by 2 shops both of which said it was 105% Mechanically sound !
The turbo master went on the trans went to popping into and out of limp mode then the starter went again, So i parked it . . .
started driving my old jeep again.

$350 to scan it????? The DEALER will scan it for no more than 1hr labor. Cant tell you much more until you get it scanned and post the codes. Its going into limp mode for a reason, the ONLY way of finding out why is to scan it. Who told you it was a speed sensor if the truck hasnt been scanned yet?? Git er done and post back with some codes.

That might bit of a challenge, i parked the truck and pulled the batteries 2 months ago . . .
Rather i towed it to where its parked due to the starter failed again . . .
But the 2 times i attempted to have it scan at O'reily's and then auto-zone it did not work as there systems won't link to and OBD-1 . . .
Thank's any how i'll just crush it . . .

I don't think you need a scan tool to get the codes on the 95, you can use a piece of wire at the ALDL connector and count how many times the SES lights up. It could be a bad igntion switch or the connector on the trans itself.
If nothing else, sell it on craigslist

I can crush it faster then sell it, I still owe $5,200 on it . . . So it'll be Marked for destruction and when i get my lean release in 24 months i'll simply haul it off and it'll be recycled.
Shame too body is in awesome shape, but after 22 repairs in 15 breaks downs in 18 months truck just ain't worth any more time.
6.5's are just boat anchors missing the chain . . . maybe i should buy a boat . . .

Who knows, maybe you can find someone who is willing to trade a decent boat for your anchor and you can cruise around on mendota or monona
