The Avalanche is my son's truck & he lives about 150 miles from me so here' the question:
He states that his truck has never had the oil pressure go up as high as it does now - around 40 at an idle which it always has been but it goes up to around 80 when you accelerate which has never been the case.
As long as it isn't dropping down toward zero I told him not to worry. We have it on synthetic oil & Fram filter since the engine break was drained - the oil/filter is changed around every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. He's going to change the oil & filter today just in case. I told him that it's probably the gauge itself or the sending unit acting up & that when I go to his place to watch the Super Bowl I'll bring a mechanical oil pressure gauge & hook it up so we know what's what!
Does anybody know of any inherant problems with these gauges etc.......
Any help or ideas will be apprechiated.
Thanks,
Jim

I assume that the get something other than a Fram filter comment is just being cute & not being helpful etc....... That being said, I'm told the oil presure goes right up to 80 now when you start it?
Sounds more like the sender is the culprit to me - anybody have any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim

I second on the crappy fram filter. I would not use them on my vehicles.

But the only way to tell whats going on is a manual gauge to check the pressure. Could be a bad stepper motor in the instrument cluster also.

NO, wasn't being cute, the quicker people get rid of that stuff the better.

Do a search on Google for FRAM issues, let me know what you find.

Sender is NOT easy to get to, which you no doubt now by now.

Where is the sender?
I don't have the vehicle here to check. I thought it would be near the filter or maybe back in the area near where the distributor would be on a (normal) Chevy engine.

Back drivers side. See that black vertical looking thing in this picture? Compare it to the previous picture I posted.

Just to the left of the guys index finger.

FYI, 27mm deep socket and the problem is fixed.
