Hey Sir.. Looking like a good night for the old Pubs tonight.. I think we may even squeak out New Jersey, They might even let you pump your own gas then.. Whats up with the rocker covers and breather colors on that engine ?? Is that original ?? We had a 64 with a six banger in it when I was a kid, and I wanna say it was blue like a Ford, but I dont recall seeing those colors on a Chevy motor?? That truck is amazingly solid however.. Im sure you will enjoy the weekend.. Im negotiating with the machine shop Dude right now to get my block and heads done as well as hot tanking and blasting everything so it can all be powder coated before Its reassembled.. And I hope to start this weekend on my engine bay and body mounts as well.. I need to get a new camera, old faithful has thrown in the towel. I actually took my empty engine bay shot with my phone..

Tommy I think that you should send the fender inner liners off to Advance Plating for chrome. It probaly wouldn't cost but $10,000.00 for the two fenders.

Grady, I remember seeing some chromed inners on a truck at a show one time.....i'll have to pass....this one is going back stock with a couple upgrades......one thing I don't think I like is I hear the original motor color was not chevy orange! I've been told it was green or gray!! It will be orange in this one and probably upgrade to front disc and a little wiggle in the motor..

Sounds great, also they have new cams that sound a lot like the old 030/030 Dr. D. Chevy cams but hydraulic. Also 097's

Tommy,
After talking to Wayne Andrews yesterday he put in a new flat tappet cam, company cam break in lube and company oil additive new springs etc. cranked up on first crank after it was pre oiled before cranking. Wiped out two lobes while he was breaking in cam in 15 minutes before valves started clicking, removed complete cam kit returned to store got another cam kit installed and this one lasted a total of 50 miles. returned and got roller cam. Careful where you get your cam.

Seems to have a good rep according to what Bill has been able to find. He was highly recommended by Ted, the powder coat man.

Tommy,
Don't laugh but in 1958, 75 Chevy, One of the first C&T strokers in Fort Lauderdale Fl. 352 C.I.,
6 Stromberg's 97's, Sctnilla Vertx mag, 4 speed, 4:56 gear, Bruce White Wall slicks, two door hardtop, with a continental kit, Headman headers, Crane Cam, Flat tappet. A stunning 106 MPH in the quarter. I was the wiper downer and I am still wiping down Chevy's.

Gotta use Rotella or Royal Purple oil, and add the ZDDP additive stuff every time you change that oil.. Also mine will be starting up and doing its initial run with Comp Cams or Royal Purple break in oil, and everything in there will be coated mightily with assembly lube etc.. Im going by the book !! I even got the book and the DVD on how to build your big block.. If the stuff on the dvd is correct with my parts etc.. she should be pumping out about 425 HP and 525 lbs ft. Thats what they dyno on the disc.. Couple that with the new OD tranny and she may feel like she has a bit more giddy up !! I gave Tommy the low down on Billy and Art at Pro One.. Nice couple of guys, Art looks like the typical old hippie hot rodder, He noticed my heads right off, and showed me all the differences in them and the stockers that would have been on there before. He says I have the best cast iron heads Chevy made in 66 for the BB.. Who am I to argue..

Bill have you asked around about powder coating your block?? I have a good friend who builds a lot of motors, and he won't build a power coated block because he said it raises the temp from 10 to 20 degrees. and something about it not breathing?? I do know a powder coated air cond compressor is a no no, along with chrome.Donny

This is exactly what they did including all the brand names. Better go with Roller Cam and avoid the hassel if using that Brand. With our 348 it was broke in on a Dyno first then put in the car.

Hey Mr Donny.. Yes I have heard that in a few other places.. According to Ted it has to do with the type of powder coat that you use. He says the kind thats made for engines and stuff like them has ceramic in it that can actually make it run cooler?? I sure wouldnt swear to that but Ted says he has done a bunch of motors and he has never had anyone come back with any temp change issues.. I am still doing a bit of research but I think its all good as long as you use the right stuff..

Was he using a Comp Cam, or another brand ?? It sure makes a fellow nervous.. I cant understand why people didnt have problems with these things forever, and now all of a sudden they are dropping like flies..

I know you do your homework but you are going to have to think out about freeze plug's in or out and any threaded hole that you are going to use will have to be tapped out. I had a set of A arms done and we couldn't get the bushings back in. as far as th freeze plugs I don't know if it would be better to do the coating and then replace them or put new ones in and do them the same color. I like them to be alum colored. Just some more thing to think about. The numbers on the motor sound great, the 65 should really get down the road after this..Donny

Yes Comp Cams, different metal?, Summit Racing gave him credit for his returns and he just paid extra for a Com Cams Roller. Yes it should make you worried if using a Comp Cams flat tappet cam. There are other Brands of cams that are not having this problem with flat tappet cams.

Machine shop is putting in brass freeze plugs after the powder coat.. Ted seals off all the interior areas of the motor with a film stuff, and puts plugs and little fittings in all the threaded openings so they dont get any powder in them. I have watched him do it before.. The only thing that gets the color is the outside stuff you see..

Tommy,
Congrats on the Nomad. I know you must have had mixed feelings about letting it go. I am, as you know, a big fan of that car. Won't seem right to see someone other than you or your son driving it. I know the new owner is going to enjoy it!
BTW, who was the guy that did the interior for you?
Doug
