I was curious if anyone knew about vacuum hose placement on 83 monte carlo. Specifically I'm talking about the two hard lines that go to and from the heater control panel through the passenger side lower firewall. They are gray and purple.
I went to the junk yard and it looks like the purple one goes to the heater control valve. Does the gray one go to manifold vacuum? Also was there a vacuum ball on this car and where dis it go in the scheme of things?
Thanks

vaccum ball goes between the intake manifold vacuum port and the vacuum line that goes to your blower selector that tells what doors to open when for header, vent, or defrost

I don't know exactly where the gray one goes, but it does not go to manifold vacuum. All vacuum hoses attched to the engine are black. There are several color vac. hoses that run under the dash to various vacuum pots to control the heater doors. There is purple, red, gray and a yellowish clear. There may be more, I can't remember since I pulled all of that stuff out and put in Vintage air with electric motors on the doors a long time ago.

All the ones I have seen are purple and grey or brown. I have never seen a black vacuum hose except for emission controls. I'm assuming the purple goes to manifold vacuum from the ball, and the gray one goes to the heater control valve.

Actually now that you mention it, I believe the one that goes to the ball resevoir is purple.

I found an unmolested 83 el-camino today in the salvage yard. Black goes from intake to the driver side of vacuum ball (if yours is mounted next to accumulator). Purple comes out of passenger side of vacuum ball and runs into the dash for the heater controls. The tan or gray one comes back out of the dash and goes to the heater control valve up on the firewall next to heater core inlet.

That sounds about right. I was thinking of the black one coming from the engine. I didn't think about the one supplying vacuum to the controls.
