I wanted to find out how much horsepower and torque my 89 suburban has. I have the 350 small block tbi and also what tranny do I have? is it the 400r 4 speed? Im new to v8's and have no clue. also is it possible to put a vortech head on and what kind of difference will it make? and what years, make, and models can I get that out of? thanks for your help

Most of them were built with a 700R4 overdrive trans, but a THM-400 could be had too. And occasionally a manual trans Suburban turns up.

1989 5.7L there were two options: VIN code A was 190 HP at 4000 RPM and 300 ft-lb at 2400 RPM; and VIN code K was 210 HP at 4000 RPM and the same torque at 2800 RPM. The eighth symbol in the VIN is the engine code.

I wouldn't mess with the motor much, both of mine have had plenty of power to tow things and will motor down the highway at 80 MPH no problem; they're not meant to be race cars, it's just a truck with a station wagon body on it.
Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize it on the internet.

1988 G20 van 5.7L - driver.
1993 3500 dually 5.7L NV4500 - tow truck
1991 G20 van - parts truck

Plus cars for swap and sale
&yes, I once tried a frame swap on a 51 Chevy.
