My son has a 2005 GMC Duramax truck and he is having problems with his right turn signals. The mirror LED's flash rapidly, but none of the other right side turn signals work...neither does the front side marker flasher. The side marker lights up, but doesn't flash. The left side is fine. We don't have a wiring diagram to help figure this out.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? It seems as though there must be two separate flashers, one left and one right. But we don't understand why the LEDs still work if the flasher is bad. Also, when he pulls a bulb from the left side, the rest of them flash rapidly, but at least they do flash. He has already replaced all of the bulbs on the right side but that did nothing.

Also, we were wondering how the side marker and turn signals were wired such that they flashed alternately. Is that in the flasher?

Any help would be appreciated.

There should be one flasher for the emergency lights while another for the turn signals.
One thing that many flashers do is flash improperly if there is a open bulb in the circuti. This is my first suggestion. It may also be that the wire to the bulb or the socket itself be shorted.
Please note that the response time of a light is a lot slower than the response time of a LED so you may be seeing flashing in the LED while the bulb is getting the power turned on and off so fast taht it doesn't have time for the filament to cool off.

What Bob said. I would bet that your right side turn signal bulb is blown on one end or the other which causes the weird flashing. That's the way mine did.

He has replaced all of the bulbs in the right side.

If there's just one flasher for the turn signals, why would the left side all work just fine, and the ENTIRE right side not work at all? Why would only the right side LEDs in the mirror work? He can hear the flasher work and at the speed it's flashing (2 or 3 times normal) it should be visible in the lights, but they're completely off.

Like I said, he pulled a bulb from the left side and they still flashed, although very fast.

This doesn't make any sense unless there are two independent turn signal circuits. Sure wish I had a wiring diagram.

Let me summarize:

* left side works normally
* when a bulb is completely removed from the left side, the flasher flashes rapidly and all remaining lights flash

* none of the right side incandescent turn signals flash
* right side mirror LEDs flash rapidly (like the left side with the bulb removed)
* All bulbs on right side have been replaced
* When right turn signal is on, you can hear the flasher clicking rapidly (2-3 times faster than normal
* right side front marker light is on with park lights, and is supposed to flash alternately with front turn signal, but it does not flash at all

We thought this might be a broken wire to one of the bulbs, simulating a blown bulb, but NONE of the other right side incandescent lights work.

Check the fuses. I think right and left are independantly fused. Also check that all of the bulb sockets are in good condition. somewhere there is an open circut.

I had a similar problem with my '04 Suburban. There was a short in the front signal light wire. It was rubbing against the front core frame and making the passenger side flashers blink quickly, as if I had a blown bulb. Funny enough, a similar thing happened on my '97 as well.

Okay, so it's a either a short or an open.

Turns out that there is a fuse for each side, one for the left turn signals and one for the right turn signals. Both fuses are good. When we pull the right turn signal fuse, the mirror LEDs quit working on the right side and the flasher quits clicking with the right turn signal on. But when you turn the left signal on, everything still works normally on the left side. So to me this confirms that there are also two flashers. Apparently there are two totally independent flasher circuits for left and right sides.

It's strange that the right mirror LEDs work but the incandescent lights don't work. I still think this may be a flasher problem. Does the flasher have more than one output terminal? How do you get to the flasher? We can hear it, but can't locate it.

One other thing......when the park lights are off the left side turn signal and side marker light flash simultaneously, but with the park lights on, they alternate. That's normal.

Looks like the flashers are actually soldered to a circuit board that's inside a module located behind the fuse panel inside the truck. You have to replace the whole module to fix a bad flasher. It's "only" about $80.....to replace a FLASHER! What are these people thinking? It's no wonder they're going broke.
