No problem.

You have to know that this is only the Canadian Pontiac is supply with that king of cooler. And if you want to look the steer axle, you will see a engine support in front. Also the link hole for the bar are not identical. And, the radiator support is not the same too. It's a well made car, but I have to pay attention to some detail when I want to use Chevy parts. (like brake hose, they don't go on the same side, I'll made it by myself).

This morning, I work on the steer axle, remove all parts, and is ready to be sandblast and paint.

Now, I show you what I found under one of the 4 patch on the frame in 2005. It was the "begining" of the restoration (began in sept 2006). I show you also the bolts who are suppose to hold down the body on the frame, I was lucky on some of the last trip that the frame arrive at the same time as the body (trip not too windy I suppose!).... and what was under the molding.

Don't ask me why! I don't know now! But now the picture work well.

Ok I bring back home the painted diff and spring. I'll buy steel hoses for brake line and put all the brake stuff. I plan this week to buy every thing I need, and make it next week. I'll post the under body clean of undercoating soon. I've take picture tonight of it.

This is the underbody clear of undercoating. It took about 45hrs to clean this stuff But now we will be able to cut/weld without putting the car on fire.... Now you are up to date!

For those who want to see other picture (i did not put all the picture I have on the project) from some part of the car let me know, if I have it I'll post it.

Great work! I can imagine all the effort on removing the undercoating. My car is covered in it as well and I dread having to do it.

Not directly related to your restoration, but I do have a question about engine and transmission mounts. I can see one mount at the front of the engine and another at the rear of the powerglide. Are there any intermediate mounts, possibly on the powerglide bellhousing or adaptor ring?

As you can see in this picture you have two engine/transmission mount on both side of the engine. They bolt on the spacer between the trans. and engine. They are complete on the picture, missing bolt only. You can look also the difference on the K member about the park brake bracket. And further, the exhaust pipe support on the other side.

Yes, that's exactly what I was hoping to see. The mounts attach to the adaptor ring, sort of like on a 50-51 Chevrolet with PG. Thank you for posting the pic.

I put oil in the diff to check for leak, balance both end to be sure that the oil goes on bearing and seal. After a while (2 days) dry like the desert, so its time to do work. I make the left side brake hoses, and tonight I make the right side. I try to use all the original car parts. I clean the wheel cyl. fitting and reuse it. I paint the retaining clip of the junction fitting and reuse it too. I clean the park brake cable. I use a tinted clear to protect it, and does a good look. I need to order the rubber boot to cap the cable. I use a brass "o"ring to seal the filler plug of the diff. And for tonight, I begin to clean all the hardware for the installation of the brake shoes.

Today I clean and put together the brake parts and shoes. I don't paint the hardware because this car won't be a trailler queen. I buy a set of new "nail" only, and replace it. Also I prepare the part of the right side of the steer axle for sanding and painting. I remove the front drum hub, grinding the rivet, cleaning all them before shipping to the painter. The diff is ready, I'll wait to install the spring because I have to bring back the diff in the garage, and it will be to heavy with. I have to found 7/16 rubber hoses for making 4 pieces to put on the park brake cable, and ordered the rubber cap. The steer axle parts are waiting for the return of the axle to be installed.

Now the frame is in the shop. The two H beam will be weld together to make a rigid frame, the car frame will be worked upside down. Today I sprayed important spot to reproduce or to check on the other frame(the good one). Other picture after the 13, I'm in vacation (going to France).

There is fresh picture now.

I put flat bar to take the curve line of the frame, weld it on the H beam.

this side braket was completly rusted and twisted (both side), with picture found in the net I place it correctly and make a stand for it, as well as the other body braket. Those side braket (the rusted one) will be remade with new steel on the other frame after positionning, because on the 49-52 frame, those braket are not the same. Look the other side body braket, it need to be replace correctly too.

A side view of the frame with body braket bolted on the "gig".

The front side body braket and "his" rust...

I use this "brand new" tool to bend the flat bar to match the curve line of the frame.

I've taken some picture today of the frame work. All the body bracket are positionned on the H beam. I'll remove the frame tomorrow and YES, place the "new" one after on the "jig" and begin with the correction. I'll post picture tonight or tomorrow.

that's the picture taken today. Everything is at the right place...

and this one, show the wing bracket, another "don't fit" item (to long), I'll use the original one with new insert (in the bolt hole) to be able to torque the bolt on the body and avoid crush it, that's why the upper one was remove from the donor frame in that picture.

I can't fold (or unfold) the frame as a one piece item. I remove all the cross-member and I'll fold correctly the two rail separatly on the "jig". I'll take some other picture today of the folding work, yesterday I made some "torture" to the rail , and the partial job look good.

I found another big differences between the two frame, the bolt patern for the front bumper bracket is not the same, they are not at the same angle too... the change is made by now... and another big differences too, is the side rail of the 49-52 frame under the body shell is straight, the 53-54 frame is curved, lowering the body shell on those car's years.....about 1" 1/2.

I think I'll know very very very well those frame after that operation.

Bending operation picture, in this picture the rear end of the frame was bended straight

on that one, the under shell part of the frame was curved like the original one, and fit correctly on the "jig".

and on that one you see the work in progress on the left one.

I take a break from the frame.

I install the spring on the diff. and begin to restore an exhaust manifold that I've found last year. Mine on the engine is cracked. I'll work on the frame next week.

I'm stuck a bit, my friend don't have time right now to help me on the frame, and the painter is late with the steer axle. The exhaust manifold that I found to replace the other one as a little crack, so I went to the welder and gave it to him.

Tonight I worked on the master cylinder, I open it an place parts in a plastic bin, and send the core to the painter, put him late a bit more...

It's not frustrating, it give me chance to do something else in the house...

I hope you enjoy the post, have a nice day.
