The anti-lock brake light has been on since i bought this truck. The brakes work, so i didn't worry about the anti-lock feature. Well, now that income tax money is on it's way, i figured i'd go ahead and get this fixed, if i could.

What could be the problem? Someone told me as we were looking at the tires, that they thought the larger tires could have caused it to come on. The tires on the truck are 305's. Could this have put the speedo out of whack and gotten the sensor or whatever out of whack as well? Or is he just guessing? lmao. I haven't had a chance to look it up yet to see what could be causing this. I knew i would find some smart peeps in here with good advice.

I don't know if your tire size is the problem, though if you'd like to make adjustments with your new tire size in mind - it wouldn't hurt, and it would bring your speedometer back to what it should be reading. Check out this page: http://www.tbichips.com/drac

I've done two now and it's a very easy job. Sometimes it takes two or three different settings before you get it "just right" - you could go with whatever setting is closest to your calculations and it'll probably be very close, or you could try several and compare the speedo against a GPS unit like I did.

As far as diagnosing the ABS unit, does your truck have RWAL or 4WAL? If it's rear-wheel only like most of the older trucks, check the FAQ thread at the top of this forum - there's a link in there for troubleshooting the RWAL system. RWAL is pretty easy to spot in that it's pretty much just a black module a little bit smaller but thicker than a DVD case, sitting under the master cylinder. The 4WAL system has a much larger black finned unit that may say "Kelsey Hayes" on it and will be positioned about center over the driver's side inner fender well. Suburbans had these before the pickups did; not sure when the pickups went over to 4WAL, and I don't have a link handy for troubleshooting those. However, I do have a '94 factory service manual and will be happy to scan in pages that will probably help once we know which system you have.

Thanks for that info. Mine has the 4WAL, finned unit in the middle of drivers side inner fender.

I'll check out that link you posted and do some reading. Thanks again.

Oh, the tires are already on the truck. They were on there when i bought it. So they were changed before i got the truck. If i remember right, i think it originally had 265's from the factory. I'm not sure and the old owner doesn't remember if they did anything to the speedo or not when they went up on the tire size.

Okay, what I meant by "new" tire size was what it has been changed to other than the factory size. It's likely they didn't do anything when they changed sizes, most people don't bother. The great thing about the 92-95 trucks is it's VERY easy to change the DRAC module to compensate for tire and gear changes. Literally just a couple bucks in parts (for the DIP switches), a little soldering effort, and a few easy calculations. Heck if I can do it, anyone can.

Well, didn't even think about the GPS to test the speedo. So, i had to find mine and put some batteries in it and then went out to the bypass and set the cruise at 70 and watched the GPS and it went from about 68 to 71, so it's right there. So so speedo is on, now i need to see if i can figure out why the ABS light is on. I'll be working on that later though. Gonna be a busy next 2 weeks. Thanks for the info here.

Hey, I had a problem with my brakes, they were pulsing hard and the burb was pulling to the right when i hit the brakes. Then the antilock light came on in the dash. This would happen intermittently, and someone suggested I disconnect the abs fuse, and this did the trick. So now I have no ABS, but I also don't have the pulsing problem, and the light in the dash stays on. Did you check the abs fuse?

I did check the big 60A under the hood, but haven't checked the one inside the truck. Not even sure if there is another inside, but i imagine there would be a lower amp fuse inside. I will check it tomorrow. My brakes work fine, no pulsing, or warped rotors, but i haven't checked the pad wear yet. I will check tomorrow though. Thanks.
