Greetings! MoparManiac here helping a friend turn wrenches on his Chevy. His '66 Impala came with a 250 I6 originally, but we're trying to put a 350 V8 with a 200R4? overdrive transmission into it's place. My friend is in the military and deploys for IRAQ next week!!! We're trying to get all parts together, correctly, before we start on this install so any help with this is greatly appreciated! The 250 was pulled lastnight, the 350 is built and sitting on a motor stand. He will be picking up the transmission, a flexplate, and an 1800-2200 stall converter today. Please tell us if the motor mount brackets are different, if the transmission mounts are different, what we will need there, etc. The more details the better so we can hopefully have it in there by the weekend. He's putting in a new radiator OEM for a 327 car, and keeping original power steering so we will need to deal with brackets on the motor as well, he currently has no brackets. Also, wants to move alternator to passenger side from drivers side. Will be using a stock points type distributor with pertronix kit for that stock look. Please help us with the mounts and bracket info and anything we may be overlooking. Anything helps, because time is the issue here! Thanks for understanding, and thanks in advance for your help. I will check often. Regards, MoparManiac.

I think the motor mounts will be the same, but you will need to fabricate a trans mount.

You can but trans mounts to do this, but they are expensive..

The 200-4R rear mount is the same distance from the bellhousing face as a TH400, and the TH400 was a factory option on these cars. See if you have another set of holes farther back to mount the crossmember.

The TV cable for the 200R will need a "little" thought.

I put a big block in a 65 bisc. That was a 6cyl. and had to change the mounts on the frame.

What is G&A - or aren't you allowed to say it on the board?

Like mn65bis said, you will have to find a pair of motor perches (towers) for any 65 V8 full size car. They are on eBay every now and then for about $30, or just go to a junkyard and unbolt a set.

You might need the 4" radiator spacer to get the radiator closer to the fan or you can use a long water pump.

Don't start until you have at least the motor perches. You can't use the 6 cylinder ones! (all V8's were the same, small or big block).

We did this swap on our '67.

Yes, the motor perches are different and located in a different set of holes on the crossmember.

The 250 radiator will work in a pinch, but doesn't provide the cooling of a V8 style. You should also haunt Ebay for a shroud although your time is short.

You will have to "massage" the engine bay harnesses to work on the 350. With the pertronix unit you will have to replace the resistor wire in the engine harness with normal wire to get a full 12v.

I believe the full-size cars came with double perches on the frame for the trans crossmember. I believe the front ones fit the powerglide, 4-speed, and 350TH. The rear ones are for the 400 and will work with your 200R4.

Our 250 came with a low-performance starter. You'll need a higher output starter which should be available at a junkyard. You can tell if you have a high performance starter by looking at the rear of the solenoid. If it has a brass "tube" between the solenoid and the rear starter motor connection then you have a high performance model.

If you need further help let me know.
