ok so i have a 1990 c2500 with a 5.7 350 (fuel injected) and a 700r4 transmission.... my problem is that i get this hard jerk between 1st and 2nd gear... it seems like it doesnt happen when i speed up fast or speed up really slow, it only seems to happen when accelerating at a "normal" rate...

does anyone know what im talking about.. im think of selling my truck but i need to know what the problem is before i sell it. if anyone needs me to explain more ill try to the best of my ability, but it will be in lamens terms, i cant really talk technical, try to use lamens/easy to understand terms with me, that would really help....

thanks for any helpful input its greatly appreciated

Did anyone maybe install a shift-kit in that transmission?

well i ment wednesday, i lost track of time...

the guy before me didnt install a shift kit, he said he never did anything to the transmission, so i guess the answer to that is no... does anyone haave any ideas as what this is, ive heard from others that it can be "link slippage"? and others say their truck has been doing it for years and nothing serious has happened and it hasnt gotten worse...

thanks

Well add me to the group of mine has always done it. And it's kept doing it after two rebuilds for other issues.

Unless you have other problems with the transmission, I'd save the money until something really goes wrong.

Just make sure you get more than one opinion locally and whatever you do, do absolutely NOT go to some quick lube place and have them do a transmission fluid "flush". Those types of establishments rarely drop the pan and resort to sucking the fluid out instead which can cause all kinds of issues in a short period of time particularly if it's been a long time since that fluid was changed.

I would check the TV cable first, it could be adjusted too tight. Secondly, these transmissions have a tendancy to have wear in their accumulators. The aluminum pistons in the accumulators have a pin going through the center of it. The pin will eventually wear the bore out until it is "Egg shaped". When this happens, the accumulator will leak causing rough shifting. Basicly what an accumulator does is cushion the shift. If it is leaking, the shift will be harsh. The 1-2 accumulator is mounted inside the pan in the right rear side of the transmission. If the transmission is otherwise operating properly, you can have the shop check this accumulator.

yea i decided not to take it to the shop today, i figured since there are others that have this problem even after rebuilds... tyhe transmission is working properly except for that jerk, but theres no other problems with it... if anything gets worse within a month i will have the shop look at it, but for now theres no need for a shop.

thanks for all the input ill post again if anything gets worse.

mine slams so hard into second gear it rattles your teeth loose. it all so slams into 3rd, and even the converter locks in with some serious punch. gotta love a trans thats built!

Mine does something like that after it sits for like 4 or 5 days without being driven. Also my truck still won't go above 70! I think it might be the converter. Instead of having it fixed though I spent 2 grand on an r/c boat im building. With money I don't have anyways. I have messed up priorities weeeeeeee!!!!

My 700r4 does the same exact thing, a significantly hard shift from 1st to 2nd, that seems more noticeable when the engine / trans is cool. It's done this since I bought the truck 3 years ago and hasn't gotten any better or worse. I just keep changing the trans fluid at the specified intervals and it seems to be pretty happy otherwise.

Man, wish I'd read this post! I did exactly what you said not to do. Now my tranny is shifting hard if every gear.
Got a feeling it going to be expensive..........
