I am installing window "whisker" strips on my 1961 Belair Bubbletop. I bought the RePops kit because I was told they are the best. I figured out the inner "fuzzies" attach to the door panel metal with staples which they provide. My original outer pieces had clips which I was able to remove and I will use them on the new outers. BUT, the new outers DO NOT have a chrome bead along the top. Is this the only way they make them. Also, I assume that you staple the inner fuzzies on the metal when you are installing the door panels?

Has anybody else run into this problem with the missing chrome bead?

I thought you should know that I had very poor luck with Repops. I ordered a set for my 62 bubbletop. I had the metal pieces that are stamped on fall off. Mine had stainless steel bead which was smaller than originals didnt look right. All in all poor quality. Called repops and was basically shined on. Would never buy their product again. Staples wrong size for the felt. Hope you have better luck.

I called RePops today. They told me that the Belairs for 1961 did NOT have a "bead" on them. They also reminded me that the outer fuzzies get attached to an outer stainless reveal strip. I had forgot about that. He also said that he has the clips I need, if my dont work. I will let you know how this saga work out.

Repops is correct - there is no stainless bead on the outer 61 fuzzy.

Staples? Not necessary - you can use small screws to hold the fuzzy to the stainless strip. These screws already hold on the stainless trim.

I only use Repops - and have never had any trouble. Just remember that if need to drill the fuzzy for screws or staples - better use a special high speed drill for hardened steel. A regular drill bit won't get it done.

I just did mine on the 63 about a month ago with a Repops set. I wasn't knocked out by the quality either but I haven't been by most of the aftermarket stuff.

I broke the bit they sent after only a few holes. I was trying real hard to hold it straight too. The one they send with the kit is just way too brittle. I went to the hardware store and bought a cobalt bit and finished the job. The cobalt was still sharp when I was done and I put a few more staples in than I probably needed to. It was around $4.00 for it but it was well worth it.

I've been reading this thread; let me add my two cents. Ollie, I don't agree with your statement, or, maybe I'm misunderstanding. The Impala doesn't have the bead because the fuzzie goes under the stainless trim (the stainless piece that's about an inch wide. The Bel-Air does not have the stainless trim but it did have a round stainless bead on the fuzzie. To my knowledge, no one reproduces the Bel-Air fuzzie. About 10 years ago, I restored a Bel-Air 2 dr ht and I purchased the fuzzies with the round bead from one of the restoration supply companies, they came in long sticks (I want to say 10 foot long sticks) and I cut them to lenght. You then have to crimp the ends and file them smooth. This took some time and patience but they didn't look bad.

Ollie,

I just got off the phone with RePops. I explained to them that the Belair does NOT have the the stainless strip on the top outside of the door. (As Tommy mentioned) And he agreed with me on that point. I offered to send him pics of the my originals. He is going to send me at NO CHARGE a new set of OUTER whisker strips with the proper clips and the polished bead. They should arrived in about 10 days.

By the way - I noticed the "Bubbletop" on American Hot Rod last night DID have the stainless strips on the door. I wonder how much money that guy paid to have that car BUILT.
