I took the handle out of the tailgater of my 92 k1500 and cleaned it all and lubed it replaced the plastic clips as well so I could open it by the handle.

But when you lift the handle the driver side latch does not fully disengage and the tailgate will not open. Any way to adjust it?

You did the cleaning/lubing attempting to address the problem that already existed, or it's a new problem since you did this? Gonna guess the former. This is usually due to the handle mechanism simply being worn out and not pulling the rod far enough for that side. If you watch its action with the bezel off you can usually see it acting up. If you help the rod along just a tiny bit by pushing on that side's arm of the lever you can get it to open?

The handle mechanism is about the only piece that fails on this tailgate setup...probably just time to replace it. Try to get an OEM one if you can; the parts house copy stuff is horrible.

I replaced the clips and lubed it cause I had to reach in by hand and squeeze the levers as the rods would pop out or it would be to stiff to lift the handle.

But if I do pull it a bit on that side it does open up just fine but the movement on driver and passenger side looks equal for how far they pull.

I thought about pulling the assembly again and trying to add metal to the top of the arm so that it pulls a bit futher when you lift the handle. Rig it untill I can find all new parts for it along with a bezel. Im mainly tired of sticking my fat hand up there to open it.

Usually you can bend the 90 degree part of the handle a little to make contact earlier and there for opening the latch further. Once you get it apart you will see the 90 degree part I am talking about.

got it working. removed the assembly again and bent the 90 Degree tab up a bit and then I also noticed due to a bit of wear that when the handle is lifted the arm on that side would slip off the handle and move up allowing it to go back to the latched position.

So after bending that up I bent the whole arm on that side foward a small amount so it stays engaged with the handle now it opens smoothly and works with the handle.
