I used Westlys bleach white a few times with a scrub brush and a good washing. Took me 2-3 times over a few weeks.

WD-40 works like a charm too, without giving the tire that super wet look either.

Fantastik spray cleaner, a sponge and the garden hose will take it off.

Hi Ron,

The ugly brown is an ant-oxidant that is surfacing to protect the tire.

If a tire "glamor" product is used - such as ArmorAll - the brown can come a chore as the tire product seals the tire against the atmosphere.

If the vehicle is sitting for long periods of time, you may want to consider tire covers to keep the uV off the tire and slow down the "brown"in the process.

Hi Guys, thanks for all the input. I have tried the Westlys and it seemed (surprising) not to work too well. Maybe I didnt use it enough. Don, I have Fantastik on the wifes shopping list tomorrow and will give it a try. I would think that the uv would not be much if I keep it garaged. Will keep posted.
thanks

HI Ron,

The antioxidant will still surface - even if the vehicle is parked inside - just takes a little longer.

Leave it parked in the garage long enough - and a nice white powder will develop on the anti oxidant.... talk about "garage patina"....

Now use a good quality tire dressing. I've been using some stuff from Griot's Garage that leaves a more natural looking satin finish (I don't like shiney tires). Works pretty good and haven't seen the brown stuff for several years.

I have been fighting "Tire Brown" for the last 7 years here in Colorado. For some reason tire brown is wicked here? (My previous 43 years on this globe was in Ohio) Maybe it's the dry climate, the elevation, the 300 days of sunshine. Whatever it is it's a real pain, especially on my BFG T/A's.

I just tried the WD-40. DAMN! It is like freakin magic, the tire brown comes right off!

Cheapest lacquer thinner you can find poured on a rag will also take the brown stuff off quickly.

One more question. Once I get all the tire brown off with the WD-40 should I use some sort of tire dressing?

I have read that solvent based dressing, like "Grape" Tire dressing http://www.topoftheline.com/graptirdres.html is much better than water based, and that it will last much longer.

What say ye

WD-40 has silicone in it, if I am not mistaken. Better try the back side to put another dressing on it to see what happens there. JB

WD-40's main ingredients, according to U.S. Material Safety Data Sheet information, are:

50%: Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits – primarily hexane, somewhat similar to kerosene)
25%: Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability)
15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
10-%: Inert ingredients

Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T... worked great after the WD-40 stripped off all the Tire Brown. And the Meguiars has that "grape" smell.... my garage has never smelled so good.

Pictures worth a thousand words... right?

Nice sheen but not that dripping wet look.

I love 303 Aerospace protectant for detailing the interior, I'll have to try it on the tires soon.
