Okay, got one of the new mini starters DB Electric. They didn't send a measuring device to set the starter. So what is the measurement? From the shaft of the starter bendix to the teeth on the flexplate?
I am going to pull the motor out of my nova and put a new flexplate on along with the starter? Some help would be great here, so I know when I have the motor out.

it should be like the thickness of a credit card. that is with the starter engaged into the flywheel. cut up one of your wifes credit cards and stick a strip in there between the teeth.

Ha! I like that suggestion! You can also use a large (1 1/2 ") paper clip as a gauge.

okay is there a way to engage the bendix without spinning the starter? The big terminal is to spin the motor right. So in theory if you use just the small terminals just the bendix should engage right?
I am not much on electrical stuff and I just want to screw it up.

You don't need to engage it electrically. You can do it manually

Okay,
I don't have a wife! Thank God! I am not sure I want one either. Anyway, my buddy David raided his wife's purse, really pissed her off, and cut up a expired credit card. I unbolted the converter, tranny and backed it off. I bolted the new flexplate and starter on then I shimmed it and got a sliver of that credit card in. Bolted the converter and tranny back up getting it back together in one afternoon. The thing is a like a rambo of starters.
