I have a 97 GMC Jimmy 231,000 miles with a problem that started over night. When I came home from work it ran just fine. I went to start it the next day and it started missing real bad. I had changed the cap, rotory and wires about a year ago. After looking at it I found that I was not getting any spark from the #1 and #2 out of the cap. the coil has lots of spark comming out of it. The rest of the plugs seem to have great spark. I pulled the cap and rotery out and they still looked as new as the day I put them in. It wont run well enough to take it anywhere to get any codes from it. Before I start throwing parts on it I thought I would ask to see if anyone had any suggestions. The coil sparks so fast that you could not tell if it was missing or not, but it seems to spark fine. Is there something that tells the spark when to fire or not. I thought if it was firing on all the others that it should fire on these as well. Any thoughts.

Check the cap closely for a crack and also for tracking of rotor residue between the two cylinders.

Just an update. Took cap off and looked it over and over for any cracks. Could not find anything wrong with it, but i guess there was. I bought a new one and the problem went away. Runs fine now.
Thanks for the help

Internal cracks can happen. Spark will take the path of least resisitance. I replace mine every time I replace the plugs. I also check the rotor one or twice a year.
