guys,
I currently drive a 1986 K20 suburban with a TH400 and NP208.
I have bought (not yet picked up) a TH700R4 also with NP208 from a 1987 K5 Blazer.
I have looked up the driveshafts at Rockauto and they only list the front driveshaft.
http://my.cardone.com/English/club/members/ customer/ecat_brands/imag einfo.asp?PARTNUM=659339#
The exact same driveshaft is also listed for the 1987 V20 Suburban.
What I am hoping now is that my driveshaft will fit the TH700R4 and NP208 without having to adjust the length.
It seems an exact fit, because they use the same front shaft. So I guess they use the same rear shaft, because both use the NP208.
can somebody confirm this?

I strongly doubt it.
The 700r4 and the th400 differ quite a bit in length (by several inches). Unless the adapter on the 700r4 somehow compensates for the difference, the 700r4/np208 will be longer than the th400/NP208.
Having the driveshafts modified isn't a big deal. You should have a driveshaft/driveline shop in a larger city of the Netherlands, they should be able to handle the shortening/lengthening of your driveshafts.
If you have a US military base somewhere close by, you should be able to find wrecked 4wd diesel suburbans in junkyards close to the military base. These would have the driveshafts you need, provided they have a 700r4/NP208 combo in them.
If you swap in the 700r4, be certain to use a convertor made for a diesel in the 700r4. The gas ones can't handle the torque output of the diesel - they have a tendency to balloon up, destroying the torque convertor.

did find a couple of guys that say they do are the same:
They are the same length. My burb orinally had a 700r4, and then an SM-465 fort a while, and now it has a TH-400...didn't have to modify the driveshaft at all.
Just for the record, I just transplanted a TH400 with a NP208 into a truck with a TH700R4 and a 208 trnasfer case, same driveshaft and cross member.
The TH400/NP208 and 700R4/NP 208 are EXACTLY the same length so you can just re-use your driveshafts with no mods. I have about 300.00 in the swap (100.00 for transmission/transfercase , 100.00 torque converter, 35.00 flywheel, misc fluids etc.).

The guys I am buying the TH700R4 and NP208 combination from measured the total length. From front to the end of the transfercase he measured 116.5 cm...
and whattayaknow! I measured mine under the car and I also measure about 116cm.
So I expect it will fit like a glove and I will be able to reuse my driveshafts...

I can confirm TH400 NP208 to a 700R4 NP208 is about an inch difference, but it will still work. You need to drill some new holes in the frame to move the crossmember.

hoping to pick it up this weekend.
And hope to start the swap soon...lots of stuff to do before half july:
- mount extra 70liter (18.5 US gallon) propane tank. That will make our total for propane 170 liters (45 US gallon). The Burb is single fuel on propane now, so we need to have a nice range.
- mount 3-point seat belts in the back for the new seats of our little girls
- switch the TH400 for the TH700
- and if I can find the time finish the Flex-a-lite fan controller on the electric fan setup and build a DIY fan shroud for it

You don't need to make a custom shroud. Use your current one. I'm going to add this setup to mine.

I currently run dual LS1 fans. The setup shroud is not big enough. I'm going to try the Mark VIII fan for hot summers. If the A/C runs poor, then I'll go back to the LS1 fans with a custom shroud to fit the entire 454 radiator.

thanks, but that wont fit.
by mistake the guy from a local shop ordered a heavy duty aluminium radiator for me and the original radiator mounts had to be modded to get the wider core to fit. No way I can get my old fan shroud back in.
that is why I wanna do a new fan shroud...and also I think the original is ugly and far to big. I like the clean and empty look I have now
