Got my new truck home today and the more I look, the more I find wrong...
How is the throttle linkage supposed to be hooked up?
How about a manual choke?
How about a jumper from the blower assembly directly to the battery?
If you notice there is a zip tie holding the throttle cable to the linkage... I drove it home like this? lol

It is supposed to be connected to the ball clip below where it is connected now - it looks like a Zerk fitting.

Grounding the fan is good. It will run better. I normally ground it at the alternator bracket.
Install a dual spring on the throttle return. Add a bigger air filter.
I like the bolt on the carb hose!!

Yikes... Zip tie on throttle linkage that could have went bad. good thing it didnt. Yes i agree needs to be ground to alt bracket and larger air filter to make it breath better. Have seen bolts used to plug up vac lines before. Best to get a plug and plug it off

Gchemist,
How should the return spring hooked up? The spring that is on there now is stretched half of the block to the intake bracket at the front of the block.
The throttle cable goes on that ball screw? Isnt' that the kick down?
I'm trying to find that carb on the Holley site, but can't find it. 1850-9 is not listed.
I'd like to get rubber caps, electric choke, and possibly correct throttle/kick-down brackets if needed.
Haven t figured out the Rig yet, but the radio is taken out, two bare wires are sticking out, along with a push/pull knob that says 'HEAT' on it. The top lever on the heat selector is missing. I thought the wire from the blower motor was a power wire, didn't think it was a ground... This is common on this gen of trucks then?
The knob protruding out of the radio slot looks like a converted headlight switch

The spring is okay. Just add another, or get one that has two one inside another.
The throttle connection needs to go above the pivot axes. Anywhere on the bracket is okay. It must not bind and return correctly. The TV/detent cables are connected below the pivot point. The lower the better. You get a better pull on the cable down to the transmission.

I got one of these.

It is easily the nicest throttle bracket I've ever used. They make a different insert for the bottom to use a kickdown cable if you have one (I don't). The two bolt attachment and adjustable cable bracket let you get full throttle, and the thing doesn't move.
It's like $70, but well worth it to not have those stupid one-bolt things moving around, and to have complete adjustability for spring tension and cable position.

A manual choke is fine, but yours is not hooked up. If your truck is not already equipped (I don't see even any hacked-up choke cable in your photo), you'll have to purchase a manual choke cable.
