Hello,

I'm trying to determine if my positraction is original to the car and whether anything else can be determined from these numbers. I have a '61 Impala built in Janesville on 11E (Fifth week of November 1960). It's a 348 3x2 4 speed car and the rear end numbers are B20 (Feb 2 1960) and AM212 stamped on the passenger side case. It is a 3:36 gear. It's 10 months from casting to build date and that seems like a long time. Is it possible, probable or unlikely this rear end is original to the car.

Maybe that 11E is May 11? Is it a P case on the rear end?

Your rear was assembled Feb 12th. The AM is the axle code.

And 212 is the assembly DAY, Feb 12. Sooooooooo, from casting to assembly is only 10days ----------- just about right.

It is possible but very unlikely.
