Hey guys .. me again. Another issue. One of my hub caps keeps flying off. Once at 25 mph and another time at 55mph. I lost it the second time and have to replace it now. Its become a real nuisance and my cruiser skirt is starting to take a beating. This is(was) an OEM hub cap and is correct. Any thoughts on how I can reinforce the weheel for my next hub cap? I don't want to keep losing this one .. thanks!

Common here to use cable tie's to make sure the hubcaps stay with the wheel even if they become loose - you can get clear ones that arn't noticed ...

Are these caps the ones with the rolled edge or do they have the 'teeth'? Do your wheels have the nubs on them to hold the rolled edge?
I used to have a problem keepking my 64SS caps on my Malibu and I put duct tape on the wheels. That held them on. Probably not the recommended approach from Chevrolet but it worked for me.

Is your hub cap the full size or dogdish? I assume full size, if it has the clips on the inside, did you try bending them out so they hold better against the wheel?
Edit: There were no replies when I started to post mine- 3 in 1 minute must be a record?

I made sure the clamps were correctly aligned with the teeth pointing out correctly, then I put clear silicone on the well cleaned rim only where the clamps sit, then install the hubcap. When the silicone dries, the hubcap has more retention. And it doesn't harm the paint, is not visible etc.

Do you have radial tires mounted on the original rims? I ask because a friend's '57 D500 had the same issue after he replaced the bias ply tires with radials. I read that the hubcaps let go because the rims flex more with radial tires.

An old-timer recommended a product called "Shoe Goo" to hold the hubcaps in place. I found it at a local grocery store, but I believe it is sold in the shoe department of some big box retailers. Run a bead around the prongs/edge of the hubcap. The Shoe Goo holds the hubcap in place, but it remains flexible enough that you can still remove the hubcap when needed.
My friends Dodge has those original Lancer 4-bar hubcaps. They're really heavy, and when they fly off the car, they could really do some damage. I Shoe Goo'ed his car about 5 years ago and he hasn't lost a hubcap since.

I lost a front wheel cover that i never found. Upon its exit it took a HUGE piece of paint off of the lip on the front fender.
