Thanks guys. That was a good job to finally get done. Went back over everything with the vented buffing wheel w/black emory compound & finished up with the flannel sewn wheel w/white compound. That plus good work lighting made all the difference in the world. The best part is I still got all 10 fingers! lol.

Jens, how do you clean your buffs? Mine get black, and sometimes the black gunk sticks to the stainless. I haven't figured out a good way to clean them yet.

I just used a piece of scrap metal 1/8" x 1" wide. Long enough to hang on to between rounds. The black stuff doesn't stick as bad to the stainless with the vented -waffle wheel (less heat transfer).

Hello;
At one point in my long life, I trained to become a musical instrument repair man. Mostly buffing the brass and silver. We got lots of rouge on the parts but after, we would use some kind of thinner to clean that off, then rinse with water and immeditly blow off the parts with air. Then we would spray laquer clear on everything to preserve the shinyness!
