A friend of mine, that I've known since 6th grade (1962), and I have'nt seen for a while, showed up today. He used to have a 39 Plymouth Coupe, 350 SBC-TH350-Ford 9", that I let him keep in my garage for about a year; he's since sold the car. Of course he's asking about my "projects", so we went out to the garage. My 56 Sedan Delivery needs to have the license tabs stuck on, but the plates are under a wire mesh (a personal touch), and it's too hot out to mess with it. So, we took Brandons' 51 Bus Coupe out for a drive. Here's where the "hang on Mark" comes in. He was IMPRESSED, but when we got back to the garage, and I shut the key "OFF", it kept running. It did'nt matter if it was in the off, or locked-off position, it kept running. Finally got it shut off after playing with it, so it looks like Brandon needs a new ignition swith. He's not been around much lately, between work and the good weather I guess. I did call him, and let him know we took the car out. And told him I now have two friends interested in buying it from him, but he won't sell it (he better not!). I just have'nt posted anything about it in a while; but it's doing just fine! Just have to ask .... who is Brandon ... you speak as if he is known to us. Guess I'm out of the loop here.

I bought this 51 Bus Coupe off the HAMB a little over 3 years ago, and had it trucked up here from Fort Worth, Tx. When I lost interest, I offered it to my nephew, Brandon. He decided we should use a new 350 SBC I had on the engine stand, along with one of my built Powereglides (I used to build Glides for the local bracket racers), and a complete 56, 4.88 Posi rear end. I've been talking about this for 2 plus years here on the 49-54 forum. Most of the members here think Brandon is a young boy, he's actually 26, and a CNC machinist. I've tried my best to corrupt him in all things automotive; I also got him hooked on guitars. His handle on Chevy Talk is Chicken Coupe (the 51 Bus Coupe sat in a barn since 1972 when the school teacher/church lady retired), but he's only posted once or twice. His "true" father was a year behind me in high school, and drove a 49 Bus Coupe with a 327, Muncie 4-speed, and Pont rear end, so he's leaning that direction with the car. I was going to go with a late model 250; had the adapter/flywheel/clutch setup/motor mounts to bolt it up to the stock 3-speed trans. After I gave the car to Brandon, I sold the conversion setup, and we have'nt looked back. I'm sure you've read some of my prior posts about what we've done; all new powertrain, brakes, suspension, blocked the front end up, big and little Cragar S/S wheels and tires, traction bars, overload shocks, aluminum radiator, completely rewired, new tank, 1 piece windshield, bucket seats (Brandon bought new), and I've had my daughter post pics. Car needs some body work and repaint, and new interior, but it's slowly getting there. It's got a street racer look to it. That's the story in a nut shell. Butch/56se3dandelivery.

Thanks for the update, have known of the car, but did not know who Brandon was, although I heard his name, thus my question.

If it's still got the original ignition switch in it, they are fairly easy to disassemble and put back together.

I remember I was having trouble with mine when I was jump starting the car after it had been sitting for awhile. It seemed as though it would make the connection just as I was turning to the off position. It would grind and grind then fire once just as I was turing the ingintion off.

Turned out to be a loose connection with-in the switch itself. I disassembled the switch, cleaned and tightened things up, re-assembled it and it has worked fine since.
