i have a 53 bel air with a 235 engine and powerglide trans. motor has been rebuilt runs great. problem im having is when im driving and coming to a stop the engine stalls out when im on the brakes. car starts right up when im back in park or neutral. if i come to a stop with the car in neutral the engine wont stall. so im assuming i have a transmission problem of some sort. please help me, im getting very pissed off cuz i cant fix it and to cheap to pay.

First of all, welcome. Check the simple things first, what is your idle rpm set at? Could be something as simple at idle adjustment.

Make sure your idle is not set to slow. Your car came with a small pot that was mounted on the carb base , that I belive was refered to as a dash pot. there was a bolt on the pot that the throttle rod rested on when you took your foot off the accelerator and slowed the throttle from closing to quickly and stalling the engine. Maybe Gene will see this post and expain it better then I have.

I would also say the idle speed needs to be higher....and the float level in the carb may be a little too high....dumping fuel into the engine when you hit the brake...flooding it out but when in neutral....higher revs keeps the engine from dying...
