Had another post which is still on the first page here, titled Harmonic Balancer Puller.

Read that, then you will see I found the missing captive bolt which is one of two for each trunnion holding the UJ in place.

Something went crunch, grind etc, and it was this. Luckily I found it, it was rattling around in the gearbox when I got it off just now, and I managed to shake the gearbox until it popped out.

As you can see, it's been chewed up and spat out but at least it is not in several bits - I can't be 100% certain, but I am pretty certain there is no long lasting damage to any of the gears inside the gearbox. I had done another couple of hundred miles since this occurred.

Anyway, some pictures below -

You can see where it took a small chunk out of the inside of the casting...

Could have been worse, thankfully it is not.

Cheers Bob, now just the joys of putting it all back together again!

It's gonna rain for the next who knows how long though over here, so it's not like I am missing out on cruising in her!

Are you still missing the lock washer that goes on that bolt? If so, your search isn't over!

Found the washer beforehand, thankfully.

Make sure you have those lock clips peened over onto the flats of the boltheads on those u-joint bolts or you will be doing that search again after a possible disconnected driveshaft. Good luck.

Yep, I know. I was going to fabricate some but ordered some instead. Can't wait to get her sorted again.
