My car is 6 Volt. Do I need a 6 volt dwell meter? Or will anything work?

Dwell meter ? Use the tried and true feeler gauge. That's what they used looong before any dwell meter hit the street.

My shop manual does not mention dwell at all. Just point gap. Now if you went to a shop with a sun machine dwell was a consideration. Feeler guages work great on points in good condition or new. Points with wear of material transfer kind of cloud the issue but then that is what a points file was for.

How do you plan to adjust the dwell without and access window on the distributor?

In an emergency a match book cover will do to set the points gap.

Years ago it was said you could tune a stove bolt with a match book and a dime.

Where do you find a match book these days?

You could use the striker area on the matchbook to clean the points too.

Yes it was a way of life Bob. I remember the days when we worked on cars with a little bit of nothing. I remember rubbing a dollar bill thru the points to clean them. Oh well, as often as my old cars broke down back in the day worked out well on dates. That is, if it broke down in the right places.
