Because I'm so go at messing things up when I try taking them apart. How many nuts are there that hold the instrument panel in place on a 53 Chevy? I know that I mustbe missing some because I can get it to move. The same with the clock. How do you get that to come out of the dash? I can't find anything in my shop manual about removing the instrument panel.

Have you taken the access plate off the firewall?
You really can't reach in there very well, but you can look in behind the dash with a flashlight and get a better idea of where the nuts are.
It's been a few years since I removed the one in my '54 so I can't tell you how many nuts are involved.

Cleon, I don't think he has an access plate. I think he has a Walton Brake Bracket which replaces the access plate.

The gauge bezel is has seven nuts. Sorry for not being able to post a pic.

There is a single one at each end of the bezel. From the narrow end there are two more (top and bottom) and then 3 are almost in a row top to bottom at the back edge of the round large end.
I can't remember exactly about the clock. The earlier models (51) had a spring clip that held the clock in place. You simply pulled it out from the front.

About 8 nuts, if you take the instruments out individually; another 6 I think if you pull the chrome bracket with it.

The clock was the hardest part of pulling the cluster. There are two spring tabs that need to be squeezed to come out the front, @ 11:30 and @ 5:30. Getting my hand in there to squeeze the tabs was my problem. There are three other anti-rattle tabs that are a non-issue. Good luck

Oh man... getting my old clock out of my 210 I had to destroy it. This is about the 4th '53-'54 I've owned that had a clock in it and I think they get harder and harder to take out as time goes on. There are clips that you have to squeeze inward and push the clock outward at the same time. Not easy... for me anyway.
