Didn't find much in the truck forum so i thought i'd check here. I'v done the v8 swap in a 52 styline but my question is what is involved in doing one in a 1953 3100 truck. Any one done or doing this. I have a 283 and a 3 speed w/overdrive column shift. Just wondering what's involved.

I've "heard" the engine needs to be offset slightly to the passenger side in order to clear the steering box. Don't know what exhaust manifolds work though. Clutch linkage would seem to be the biggest hurdle after moving the engine over. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I have heard it's a tad easier because of clearance.

It's a little less than two shakes of a fat lamb's tail. I did a swap of a Pontiac V8 into my '46 Chevy panel truck many moons ago and i had no problems with the chevy steering or with the exhaust or with the cowl or anything. I just plopped that sucker in and welded some fabricated motormounts in, and started driving it. So I am kinda assuming the panel truck frame and inner fenders and cowl and radiator stayed about the same from '46 to '53. Then too I owned two '54 chevy pickups, both with 235's, and the engine compartments just looked a little wider than the pass cars.

I put a chevy zz4 350 in our 53 chevy pickup with no problems at all. We do have a mustang 11 front suspension though. Set the enging and tranny in on a host and marked where to put the engine mounts. Great fit, steering shaft was put in without much trouble, did have to grind off a slight area on the frame to clear though!

I believe a "tad" is equal to three "taints". Butch/56sedandelivery.
