hi everyone, just joined up after reading many threads on the site. i just picked up a running 48 fleetmaster 2 door sedan with either a 216 or a 236, 3 on the tree. funky interior and exterior needs love but she actually does move down the road - and kinda stops. the suspension is way shot and the car feels like a rowboat in the middle of the pacific during a monsoon. so going to add oil to the shocks and try and adjust the worm gear (car pulls super hard to the right).
also considering my options to get a better rear axle or gear ratio, and possbly putting a t5 behind the engine.
thanks for allowing me to be a member and hope to learn enough to one day offer some contributions as well.

Welcome. I acquired a 48 Fleetmaster 2 door Town Sedan 2 Summers ago, and, been working on it ever since. I'm still learning things about the car as I work to solve its issues. The folks here are a ton of help for us newbies. My car is an older restoration that is in pretty decent shape but had niggling mechanical issues. One quick way to tell a 216 from a 235. The exhaust manifold outlet on a 216 points straight down, on a 235 it angles back toward the firewall.
Regards and Good Luck with your car:

Welcome Jason. I got mine in June 2010. Completely stock, but engine has been changed twice. Am getting ready to install new wiring harness when I get back from vacation. Of course had planed on it being done by now. But Honey Do's interfered.

Welcome, you will find answers to questions here. The car you purchased came with a 216, one way to tell that is to look at the push rod cover. On a 216,that cover extends over the spark plug holes to the bottom of the valve cover. A 235 has a short push rod cover that stops below the spark plugs. Now there are different 235s available those built prior to the 1953 full pressure and those from 53 on. The early 235 will have a small triangular plate bolted to the drivers side of the engine and locate below the manifolds. The difference in engines is significant so it is important that you confirm what you have.

Anything I can do to help you, just say the word! I have a '47 Chevy 2 dr coupe that I've had for 42 years. I just finished putting a '59 Chevy 235 into her. With the help of Bob and Keith....she looks and runs GREAT!! Kept her 6 volt. Just finished carpeting the trunk and the floors in the seating area. I also have a '57 Chevy with a 350 / 350.
Thanks
