Does anyone have experience with these. I have a Mallory unilite on the car, and the cost of an optic module is $ 90, and you can buy the street fire for $ 120. Thanks for any comments or advice.

Installed one on a buddy's car 3-4 years ago and have had zero issues with it. It was introduced by MSD as an "cheap import fighter". However, it was designed in El Paso, TX by MSD, uses some USA-made parts, and comes with MSD tech support.
Unlike the higher priced MSD units, it doesn't have the cool centrifugal advance adjustment capability.
I personally think it will serve you well for many years.

OK, my narrow mind was thinking of a standard diameter distributor, not a big cap HEI.

One more question. I was going to install it today, but when I look at the wire that comes from the ignition switch - it is mighty small. Does the wiring need to be upgraded, or is the stock wire sufficient? Thanks in advance for the help.

I've been running a GM HEI on my 69 pickup for 18 years using a stock ignition switch and the wire that used to run to the ballast resistor. (I removed the ballast resistor, of course.) My GM Chassis Service Manual shows that to be a 20 gauge wire.
I think aftermarket wiring harnesses like AAW and Ron Francis use something around 16 gauge.

I think stock HEI installations use a 12 gauge wire to power it.

I think stock HEI installations use a 12 gauge wire to power it.
And my truck's wiring still goes through the original, 43 year old firewall connector! Probably something I should replace before giving the truck to my son. Also have to wonder about the ignition switch, but something like an AAW switch requires a different switch connector.
Only electrical problem I've had with it since I bought the truck in 1989 is parking light connectors. Knock on wood.
