If you think that natural gas prices will remain low, and you were going to buy a vehicle like that anyway, the $11,000 might be worth it.

And that's it right there; if even 10% of vehicles on the road that are currently gasoline were replaced with CNG powered vehicles...what do you think the price of CNG would do?

The real problem is distribution. There are few to none CNG refueling stations for consumers.

Right now this deal only makes sense for local fleets that would spend the money for the tanks, pumps and the rest of the refueling hardware needed. City and county governments, post office, local delivery services, etc.

The boom on natural gas since 2008 with the fracking technology cut the price of natural gas in half, but it took 4 years. So today the number of rigs drilling for gas is finally dropping. If there were new ways to use natural gas for fuel, that would increase demand and price. But it would also encourage more drilling and more supply. My thought is that we'd still be better off with natural gas, and the economics probably get better as the years go by. But the crystal ball is cloudy on how that all works out. My guess ok over the long term, but I don't know.
