Been there, done that, got the T-shirt (for hooking up the battery backwards).

On my truck it partially burned the fusible link that comes off the junction that is above and to the passenger side of the brake booster on the firewall. The wire with the fusible link runs straight down from the junction.

You need to buy a replacement GM 14 gauge fusible link wire, which is sold by most parts stores under the Dorman or Help! brand name.
