The '55-'57 transmissions had no rear engine mount provisions on the transmission, but the '58-up engine-transmission mounting was comprised of a mid-block engine mount and a rear transmission mount. The rear engine mount for a '55-'57 was at the bellhousing. So for you want in a direct bolt-in 3spd OD is a '58-'64 OD trans. The manual 3sp OD was offered up until '68, but after '65, the 3sp OD became a completely different, although superior, transmission. A '66-'68 "Saginaw" 3 spd OD can be fitted to earlier Chevys with some modifications. I have one in my '58 and another that I want to install in my '56.
