    In response to VANDENPLAS

I had a customer one time bring me his own oil and filter in a 95 Tercel. I drained the oil, screwed on the filter, and filled it up with oil. I then started it, and checked the level. The customer went to pay, and I backed it out of the shop. When I put it in forward, and looked ahead, there was a long puddle of oil across the hoist, the doorway, and a nice 90 degree puddle where I backed out of the shop.

Car went back in, the old filter had fallen off and was laying on the floor next to the door. I checked it, and the hole was just slightly too big to fit on the block. The filter was on the side of the motor, so the threads felt like they screwed on no problem, and the filter tightened up no problem, but it was just as I was backing it out it fell off.

We found the right filter, and to this day, I always check for the o ring and to make sure it screws on right.
