In response to impalamark
I think this this is a great idea
my problem with my 86 was very simple
sometimes spark sometimes no spark
once it started you could drive and it would never fail when running but shut it off for one second
a it may not start for weeks then run again fine
for weeks again
I finally ripped it all out and put in a stand alone
hei system and had no more problems
wish I been a chevy talk member then !!

LOL, sounds like the problem I had with my 1983 G20. Never would die out while running, but would sometimes not start up. Hot or cold, no spark on restart. Coil, Module, Pickup Coil, nothing. Hotwire straight to the distributer, nothing. HUMM.
Ripped the whole carbed emissions nightmare and distributer setup off of it and dropped a MAF TPI setup on the engine. Was twice the engine after. No pinging, no hesitation, no bad gas mileage, just lots of tire spinning chevy 305 power.
