My '02 Silverado's "Parking Brake" hasn't worked since day one! Every Chevy/GMC 1/2 ton I've looked at since then, same thing. Real fun when you're launching the boat by yourself to hear the tranny pawl clunk. Take it apart, and it's a seperate assembly on top of the rear disc. What a stupid design. Anyone defending the parking brake on these trucks doesn't know what they're talking about, or has no experience with them.
