I've not done this to my 75 K5 yet, but it is in the plan when my 5.3 comes together. One of my buddies did it to his 78 K10 when he swapped in a nv4500. It's relatively simple job provided you get all the correct parts.

The simple part of this is the fact that the later square body trucks from the mid-80's came with a hydro clutch setup with the 465 trans. Ideally you find one of these in the boneyard you can peel the parts from. Here's a link to his build for the 5-speed swap. The discussion of the hydro setup starts on page 3.
