If it's "rebuilt", best to find to find out who rebuilt it and exactly what was done. I've seen "rebuilt" items for our cars that were only repainted and cleaned up.
I was given a Borg Warner T86E 3-speed O.D. trans last Fall. It won't fit our cars--I got it for a buddy who is rebuilding his dad's Studebaker truck (It also fits Jeeps). The T86E needed a new 1st/Rev sliding gear and I found an NOS one on ebay for $26, and put it in along with a gasket set. So the total cost of the rebuilt O.D. trans was less than $50.
I bet if you keep looking you can find a Chevy O.D. trans from those years for cheap. I know I've seen them. Just keep looking. They are not real difficult to rebuild--get a Shop Manual and do it yourself. If no gears are trashed, it will only need new bearings and maybe synchros. Ebay will be your friend in that case.
