Good Evening all,

I'm starting to look for a 1970-72 chevelle and saw some ad postings and was wondering if you all have any pointers on what to examine when buying a car of this age or era?

How had you all's experience been in inspecting a car owned privately? Do you all ask to have the car brought to a local shop to be put on a lift and checked out thoroughly by a mechanic or do compression tests and etc.? Or do you just take a flashlight and try to look at nook and crannies to give you the warm and fuzzy you are buying a good vehicle?

I have bought a used car (daily driver use) before, but not something I would plan on driving around from time to time and possibly restoring. So I wasn't sure if all the same used car buying rules apply? Such as, should I walk away if the private owner hesitates letting potential buyers inspect the car thoroughly? Some rules of thumb would be appreciated.

Plus, does it really matter I get an all numbers matching car? I know some of the ads mention the motor and trans may have been changed out and they have the original in their garage if I wanted it. Should I consider buying that as well?

Also, any stuff with these chevelles I should look out for when checking it out?

Do you all also have any ballpark price for 70-72 chevelles in ranges of quality so I'm not overpaying for something?

Thanks.
Thank you.
