So my trucks gauge was reading 155-160 degrees for normal operating temps. So I went to O'reillys and asked for a new sensor, they said they only have the sensor from the intake manifold and to get it to work for the gauge sender i would need to buy a new pigtail with the two ends to it and splice it in and leave the one extra wire hanging.. so I tried to install it and it and spliced in the yellow wire and left the black wire hanging...it didn't read at all on the gauge, so I figured it was the ground and grounded it the some metal, then the gauge reads too high and now rises to peak at over 260 degrees. What do I need to do to make it read right with the new 2 terminal sensor instead of the 1 terminal? They said it'd work, but maybe my gauge is bad? I thought maybe cleaning the connections on it? the truck has 246000 miles on it.
Things tried: I've already replaced the other coolant sensor and changed the thermostat to 195.
